Menyial. An evocative word for its founder. It's her mother's name, and means house in Auvergne. So Marianne Ratier's choice of name for her brand of illustrated paper was an obvious one. After working in advertising and publishing two illustrated children's novels, it was quite natural for her to create her own brand of wallpaper while in confinement. "I can give free rein to my imagination to develop my collections and offer them to as many people as possible", explains the illustrator. Marianne is now supported by Laurine Mazier. "I've admired Marianne's work for many years. When the opportunity arose to take charge of the development and management of the brand, I didn't hesitate."

Meynial's refined, timeless patterns have graced the walls and adorned the textiles of ready-to-wear brands and restaurants such as Istr in Paris, and Animaux Bars (L'Ours, La Loutre and Le Renard).

Met at Maison&Objet Paris in January 2024, where they were exhibiting the brand for the first time, today, Marianne and Laurine share their ambitions and what makes their creations so well suited to the demands of hospitality.

What are the three words that define the brand?

Handmade, Pattern, and Made to Measure

Who are your main customers at the moment?

At the moment, our clientele is mainly B2B. We have a real sales strategy aimed at decorating professionals, who play an essential prescription role for us.
In the early months, we were lucky enough to work with influential architects, who helped us take on some great projects and the brand in the wallpaper sector. We're also starting to see more and more sales through our reseller partners. Meynial has very quickly been referenced in a number of top retailers (Au fil des Couleurs, Maison Series, Ressource, etc.) and this is helping to raise the brand's profile with both B2B and B2C customers.

What are Meynial's ambitions?

Develop more collaborations with other brands: in mid-August, we'll be launching a collaboration with a major decorating chain, and we're currently in discussions with a Japanese furniture manufacturer about a project due for release in 2025.
Diversify our range and apply our designs to fabric (household linen), stationery, crockery, etc.
We've just signed up our first retailer in the USA (Walnut Wallpapers in Los Angeles) and we hope there will be more!
Work on creating unique designs for hotels, restaurants, brands and individuals.

How are your services adapted to the needs of the hotel and restaurant industry?

The creation of unique, made-to-measure designs! It's the detail that gives a place its identity and soul. A décor that you won't find anywhere else.A pattern tells a real story and should, in the blink of an eye, draw customers into the atmosphere of the place.
To achieve this, we work closely with our customers. Marianne involves them in every stage of the design process (while retaining its own style and personality) and this is clearly what can make all the difference. As well as being environmentally friendly, our paper is fireproof and therefore complies with hotel and restaurant standards.

If you had to choose just one, what would your iconic creation be?

Marianne: our latest, Opium en Jardin
Laurine: Bons Baisers de Marseille in Jouy Blue
