Manhattan’s Grand Dame Art Deco Hotel Welcomes Guests with Brand New Interior Design and Modern Innovations

Jumeirah Essex House on Central Park South in Manhattan, part of Jumeirah, the dynamic and fast growing Dubai-based luxury hotel group, has now completed the refurbishment of its rooms. The total refurbishment program, which saw an investment of $90 million over the past 10 months, includes all of the hotel’s 515 luxury bedrooms and suites, the hotel lobby, health club & spa as well as the restaurants and bars. The rooms and suites, along with the hotel’s luxurious 2500 square feet spa and state-of-the-art gym facilities have been completed and will be followed by the opening of the hotel’s brand new destination restaurant later this year.

The refurbishment for Jumeirah Essex House conserved and maintained the hotel’s historic elements while enhancing the facilities and services by offering the latest innovations, in-room technology and entertainment to appeal to even the most discerning traveler. With an enviable location on Central Park South in the heart of New York City, the hotel is now ready to welcome guests with a new look and feel and interior designs that reflect the “Golden Age of Travel.”

“When we assumed management of the hotel in January 2006, we made the commitment to our colleagues and guests that we would, in close cooperation with owners Dubai Investment Group, embark on a multimillion dollar refurbishment program, to consolidate its position as one of New York’s few remaining truly original hotel experiences,” said Frank van der Post, senior vice president, Americas for Jumeirah Group. “I am very pleased to see this promise come to fruition today.”

“Our promise was to create a contemporary classic hotel, reflecting the hotel’s historic past and the ambition of its luxurious future,” added Scott Dawson, general manager of Jumeirah Essex House. “This has been achieved and we look forward to receiving feedback on the new design, facilities and services from our discerning guests and visitors.”

Atlanta-based hospitality design firm Hirsch Bedner Associates, created a design scheme that played homage to the hotel’s art deco heritage, complemented by contemporary design nuances. The newly redesigned guest rooms and suites combine the luxury, comfort, innovation and functionality of the modern era with the style and sleekness of the heyday of international travel in the 1920s and 1930s.

Jumeirah Essex House’s in-room technology is completely designed and developed with the guest in mind to provide control of all the room features through innovative LCD controls or through regular switches. All rooms and suites feature plug and play facilities allowing guests to use their own devices seamlessly, wireless Internet, high definition on-demand in-room entertainment, voice-over-IP telephones, interactive TV systems, as well as touch screen control pads for guests to select their preferred lighting, mood and temperature settings. The use of this innovative technology for temperature and light settings, including motion sensors, were implemented to be environment friendly, as these features help to significantly reduce energy consumption.
