Omni Tucson National Resort Undergoes $60 Million Transformation and Firefighters Benefit

The Omni Tucson National has extended an invitation to Rural/Metro firefighters to train in parts of their property that will be dramatically transformed during a $60 million multi-phase renovation project, the largest hotel renovation project ever in a Tucson Resort. Omni is honored to demonstrate its commitment to the community and firefighters are excited to train in structure fire simulations that allow them to experience practical evolutions in a controlled environment.

A smoke machine will be used to simulate the intense haze and limited visibility present in structure fires while firefighters bring charged hose lines into vacant hotel property to practice fire attack skills while keeping personal safety as a top priority. It is rare that fire fighters have the opportunity to train under “real life” circumstances.

Over 170 firefighters will benefit from practicing these valuable training evolutions over a two week period beginning August 6th. The firefighters will suit up in their standard firefighting turnout gear which includes jacket and pants, gloves, helmet, boots, Nomex protective hood, and air pack which has a total weight of more than 50 lbs. Press are invited to attend the training.

The significant transformation that began in June will occur in various phases with final completion by October, 2008. “We plan to carve out a niche as a leader in luxury in the Tucson area” said David Morgan, general manager. This new exquisite resort will offer 279 custom-designed guestrooms and villas, award-winning spa, an upscale steakhouse wine bar, mountain view grand ballroom and new golf club. This extraordinary design team includes Tucson based Seaver Franks; Zebrowksi Design Group, based in Culver City, Calif.; and E-Group, based in Phoenix, Arizona. Coupled with world-class championship golf, this new desert oasis will evolve as one of the Southwest’s most exceptional new retreat experiences.
