Marriott's Norman K. Jenkins Receives Honors for Industry Contributions

Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE:MAR) announced today that Norman K. Jenkins, senior vice president, North American Lodging Development and champion of the company's Diversity Ownership Initiative, has been recognized by Black Meetings & Tourism magazine with the 2007 APEX Award for Distinguished Service. The APEX Award is presented annually to individuals who have made outstanding contributions and have positively impacted travel and tourism.
"We're very proud of Norm's accomplishments," said J.W. Marriott, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer, Marriott International. "He's had great success spearheading the Diversity Ownership Initiative and other complex urban development projects, as well as leading several corporate business initiatives. He's an integral member of our development team."
In 2005, Marriott launched the Diversity Ownership Initiative under Jenkins' leadership. The company has surpassed its goal to have 500 hotels owned, managed or in the pipeline by diverse owners and women by 2010.
Jenkins is a certified public accountant and a graduate of Howard University and George Washington University where he earned his BBA in Accounting and MBA, respectively. He is active on several boards, including the International Franchise Association, the Executive Leadership Council, and the Howard University School of Business Board of Visitors. He is also the past President and CEO of the National Association of Black Accountants. Jenkins joined Marriott in 1997 and was appointed Corporate Officer in 2005.
