The Peninsula Hotels is proud to introduce a distinctive line of custom-fragranced, environmentally friendly guest room amenities at all its hotel properties beginning in Fall 2020.

The Peninsula Hotels is the first hotel group to take a truly holistic approach to honour the aromatic story of each hotel’s individual location, while embracing a planet-conscious ethos. Created by talented fragrance curators in each Peninsula destination, each bathroom amenity set features locally created, bespoke fragrance, natural ingredients and sustainable packaging to enhance the guests’ stay experience.

Destination-Specific Scents Created by Local Fragrance Curators

In creating its new line of guest room amenities, The Peninsula Hotels aspired to do more than simply provide its guests with top-quality bath products. The company aims to encourage a delightful and deeply distinctive sensory immersion in each of its hotel locations. To that end, the hotel group sought out the most accomplished artisanal perfumers living in each of its property’s home cities – fragrance curators whose knowledge of the region and native botanical ingredients facilitate the craft of custom scents embodying the essence of their locales. These bespoke scents are infused in bathroom amenities (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, body milk, and soap).

Earth-Friendly, Skin-Friendly Ingredients and Packaging

All fragrance amenities in the new signature line are made with natural ingredients and aromatic essences, including skin-soothing emollients like shea butter, sweet almond oil and olive oil. All are gluten-free, soy-free, and free of harmful chemicals such as parabens, silicone and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS).

In keeping with The Peninsula Hotels’ commitment to sustainable luxury, the amenities also use packaging that is 99.9% free of single-use petroleum plastics. Containers for body milk, shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner are made of aluminium from 45% recycled sources (which is easily recyclable in many parts of the world, unlike most other materials); container caps are also made from recyclable metal alloy. Additionally, amenities such as shower caps, toothbrushes, and razors which formerly incorporated petroleum plastics have been replaced with more ecologically minded alternatives made from corn starch, wheat, wood and recycled metal. Inner plastic wrappings for these amenities are also eliminated. To maintain hygiene and humidity control, certified sustainable paper packaging is now coated on the inside with UV-oil and externally treated with a perforated seal to be tamper-evident.

A Win for The Peninsula Hotels, Guests, and the Planet

According to Gareth Roberts, Group Director of Brand and Operations Support for The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited, owner and operator of The Peninsula Hotels, the launch of the new amenity line heralds an important new chapter for the brand. “This creative endeavour is a ground-breaking achievement – not just for The Peninsula Hotels, but for our guests as well,” said Mr Roberts. “Now, those who stay at our hotels can rest assured that their luxurious, indulgent guest room products have been made with consideration towards minimising the environmental impact.”

The launch of the line has also provided a new source of inspiration to the fragrance curators, whose scent designs were an instrumental part of the amenities’ creation.

“From the first time I visited The Peninsula Chicago, it was clear to me that the hotel embraced a particular, essential philosophy: every aspect of the environment is considered with great care. My practice as a perfumer is guided by the same ethos; I share the commitment to crafting a fully immersive experience. By creating a unique scent for the hotel, I hope to help create that experience for Peninsula guests,” said Russell Weiss, an esteemed perfumer from Chicago whose fragrance infuses the amenities at The Peninsula Chicago.

“I am honoured to create a bespoke fragrance for The Peninsula Paris – a place whose magic I discovered myself a few years ago while enjoying views over the city from L’Oiseau Blanc restaurant,” said French perfumer Céline Barel who curates fragrances for The Peninsula Paris. “Not only is the hotel a place of remarkable elegance; its celebration of art, historic architecture, haute cuisine, and glamour also make it quintessentially French. The property is an invitation to a rich conversation – one I hope to spark through my uniquely crafted fragrance.”

The new guest room amenity has debuted at The Peninsula Hong Kong, The Peninsula Shanghai and The Peninsula Beijing and will be available across all Peninsula properties starting in December 2020. Bespoke fragrances will also be introduced to the projects under development in London, Istanbul and Yangon as they open.
