THE AMERICAS
Sunstone Hotel Investors has appointed Steven Goldman Chief Executive Officer. Robert Alter will remain as an executive officer during the course of 2007 until his transition to Chairman of the Board. Goldman, a Cornell graduate like Alter, was previously the Executive Vice President of Acquisitions and Development for Global Hyatt Corporation.
Tanya Geller-Franco has joined the Stein Hotel Group as Chief Executive Officer, North America. She comes from Strategic Hotel Capital where she was Vice President of Acquisitions – Europe. Previously, she served as the Vice President of Renovation and Design at the SHC Corporate Headquarters in Chicago. She joined from Hyatt where she was a Group Marketing Manager.
Jim McPartlin joined Hotels AB last October as Senior Vice President of Operations, taking over the position left vacant when Michael Rawson left the company. He comes from the Gramercy Park Hotel where he was the General Manager. He previously served as the General Manager at the W Times Square and the W San Francisco.
Jamie Yarrow is taking on the role of President of Hotel Operations for the Terra Resort Group based in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, following an eighteen-year career with Four Seasons, most recently as the General Manager at the Four Seasons Palm Beach. Yarrow had been the opening Resort Manager at the Four Seasons Jackson Hole.
David Hill has joined RB Properties in Washington, DC as Vice President of Hotel and Restaurant Operations. He comes from the Hotel Topaz where he was the General Manager/Area Manager for Kimpton Hotels. Hill previously served as General Manager at the Hotel Derek in Houston, the Georges and the Henley Park, both in Washington, DC.
Barry Cregan has joined Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut as Senior Vice President of Resort Operations. He comes from Puerto Rico where, for the past year, he had been overseeing both the Westin Rio Mar Beach Golf Resort and the Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel as Senior Vice President. He previously spent three years as General Manager of the former Marriott International Rihga Royal, now The London New York.
Win Person holds the newly-created position of Senior Corporate Director of Epicurean Operations for Las-Vegas-based Pinnacle Entertainment. He comes from the Pure Management Group, where he was the Vice President of Restaurant Development. Person also served as Vice President of Food and Beverage at Bellagio for over two years. He is a Lausanne hotel school graduate.
Fairmont Raffles Hotels has named Matthew Sparks Senior Vice President, Development for The Americas. Most recently serving as consultant for Fairmont, Sparks has held various executive level development positions with Wyndham and Starwood.
Harrah's Entertainment Central Division President Anthony Sanfilippo has retired after 24 years with the company. He will be replaced by John Payne who has been President of Harrah's Atlantic City Division since November 2005.
Jerry Gibson transfers to the Hyatt Regency Chicago as General Manager. He was most recently in the same position at the Grand Hyatt New York where Matt Adams succeeds him. Gibson has been with Hyatt since 1980 and has been a General Manager since 1995 at Columbus’ Hyatt on Capitol Square and the Hyatt Regency Kauai prior to moving to New York.
Peter Kacheris has been appointed General Manager at Walt Disney World for the Dolphin and Swan Hotels. He leaves Marriott International after over twenty-five years, most recently at the JW Marriott Orlando where he was appointed General Manager in August 2006.
Roland Maldonado has appointed General Manager of the Hotel ICON in Houston. He joins from the Hamilton Park Hotel in Florham Park, New Jersey where he had been the General Manager since 2005. Previously, he was the Hotel Manager at the Hotel Nine Zero in Boston and has worked at the Vail Cascade Resort & Spa and the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego. All these properties are or were operated by Destination Hotels and Resorts.
Jorge Bordonaba has been appointed General Manager at the Quepos Ocean Club in Costa Rica, currently under construction. He comes from the Hacienda de San Antonio in Mexico where he was the Executive Assistant Manager.
Daniel Donahue has been named General Manager at the Lenox in Boston. He was most recently the Deputy General Manager at Jurys Boston after working at the Jurys Washington DC as the Director of Operations.
Jort Buning has moved to Rio de Janeiro as General Manager of the Iberostar Copacabana. He has previously been the General Manager at the Iberostar Cozumel in Mexico.
Pablo Graf has joined the soon-to-open Rosewood Mayakoba in Mexico as General Manager. He had previously been with Hyatt International as General Manager in Warsaw, New Delhi, Thailand and, most recently, at the Park Hyatt Dubai.
Nikheel Advani has been promoted to Managing Director of Grace Bay Club in Turks & Caicos after joining the resort in 2004 as General Manager. He has previously worked at Raffles in Singapore and the Ritz-Carlton New York, Battery Park.
John Douponce has been named General Manager at the Graciela in Burbank, taking over from Shawn Gracey. He had been the General Manager of Le Montrose Suite Hotel in West Hollywood for the past fourteen years.
Gil Zanchi has been named Area General Manager for the New Orleans Marriott. He has been with Marriott for twenty-three years in Hawaii, Washington, DC, Orlando and, most recently as Vice President for Select Service and Extended Stay Hotels for the Southeastern Region for Marriott International.
Frank Zumbo has been appointed as General Manager of both the Renaissance Père Marquette Hotel and the Renaissance Arts Hotel in New Orleans. He most recently served as Regional Vice President of Operations for the Western Region at Marriott International.
Raymond Vermolen is Acting General Manager for the newly rebranded InterContinental Los Angeles (formerly the Park Hyatt). Since 2005, he had been the Hotel Manager at New York’s Barclay InterContinental. He previously held many positions with InterContinental in Beirut, Athens, Paris and Amsterdam.
Garret Corcoran has been named General Manager at the Residence Inn Poughkeepsie. Since 1995, he has been the General Manager of Troutbeck. In addition, he spent three years as General Manager of the Fitzpatrick Manhattan Hotel.
Adrian McNally has been named Hotel Manager at the Mansion on Turtle Creek. For the past nine years, he had been with Fairmont in San Jose, San Francisco, Kansas City and most recently in Kenya where he oversaw Rooms Operations for five properties in the region.
Christian Hommerich is the new Hotel Manager at the Pierre. He comes from the Mark where he spent ten years in various positions, most recently as Director of Rooms.
Glen Valencia has joined the soon-to-open Custom (formerly the Furama LAX) as Assistant General Manager. He was most recently with the Angler Boutique Resort in South Beach and previously with Hotels AB in various positions at the Standard Miami and the Standard Hollywood.
Rick Walls has been appointed Vice President of Finance for the Terra Resort Group. He had been with Four Seasons for the past eighteen years, most recently as Area Director of Finance, based at the Four Seasons Jackson Hole.
Gene Riley has been appointed Controller at Seattle’s Sorrento. Since 1999, he had been with Noble House Hotels and Resorts where he worked at both the corporate level as an accountant at their corporate offices and he served two appointments (Assistant Controller and later, Controller-at-Large) at the Inn at Loreto in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Greg Bingaman has joined Westmont Hospitality in Houston as Director of Asset Management. Bingaman, a Cornell graduate, comes from Legacy Hotels, a REIT that owned a portfolio of Fairmont properties, where he served as Executive Director of Asset Management for the past three years. Prior to that, he held various asset management and related positions at the Boutique Hotel Group.
Kirk Knudsen will be the Director of Finance for the hospitality division of the Palisades Development Group in Santa Monica. He is a former Controller from Shutters on the Beach, also in Santa Monica.
Thomas Harlander has transferred to the Park Hyatt Buenos Aires as Director of Operations. He was most recently at the Park Hyatt Los Angeles (now the InterContinental Los Angeles) in the same capacity. He previously served as Food and Beverage Director at the Park Hyatt in Washington, DC.
Darren Wightman has joined Los Angeles-based Innovative Dining Group as Director of Development/Operations for Lucky Fish Concepts. The company is expected to roll out a chain of conveyor-belt sushi restaurants. For over six years, Wightman had been based in London as Corporate Executive Chef for the Yo Sushi group of restaurants. Previously, he had overseen the culinary operations as Group Executive Chef for the Oriental Restaurant Group, also in London. An Australian, he also served as Executive Chef for Hong Kong-based Food and Beverage Solutions.
David Bodette has been promoted to Senior Corporate Director Food and Beverage, Domestic & Caribbean for Ritz-Carlton. He was most recently the Executive Assistant Manager in charge of Food and Beverage at the Ritz-Carlton Boston, now the Taj Hotel, Boston. Bodette previously served as Director of Food and Beverage at the Langham Boston for two years, and had held a similar title at Auberge du Soleil.
Philipp Economou has been named Director of Food and Beverage at the InterContinental Miami. He transfers from the InterContinental Carlton in Cannes where he had been the Food and Beverage Manager since 2005, after serving in the same post at the InterContinental Madrid.
Thane Kuhlman has been promoted to Food and Beverage Director at the recently renovated Presidente InterContinental Cancun. Kuhlman, a Cornell graduate, comes to Cancun from the position of Food and Beverage Manager at the Presidente InterContinental Mexico City.
Raymond Stiehl has joined Seattle’s Sorrento as Director of Food and Beverage. He was previously the General Manager at Shuckers at the Fairmont Olympic.
Joe Verde has been named Director of Food and Beverage at the Heldrich currently being constructed in downtown New Brunswick, New Jersey. He was most recently the Assistant Director Food and Beverage at the New York Hilton and also served as the Director of Food and Beverage at the Millennium Hilton, where he started as the Executive Chef.
Marcus Nicolaidis has been appointed Food and Beverage Director at the Custom (formerly the Furama LAX) and Pali House. He comes from the Standard Downtown Los Angeles following three years at New York’s hip Hotel Maritime.
Ellen Van Slyke has joined the Loews Coronado Resort as Director of Food And Beverage taking over from Stephen Cummings, who has been promoted to Assistant General Manager at the Loews Ventana Canyon in Tucson. Van Slyke comes from the Loews Ventana Canyon where she was the Director of Food and Beverage.
Olivier Gaupin has joined Alys Beach in Florida as Director of Food and Beverage. For the past five years, he had been at the WaterColor resort as Executive Chef.
Ehab Rashwan has been promoted to Director of Food and Beverage at Raffles Resort Canouan Island in the West Indies. He joined Raffles in 2004 and has previously held food and beverage positions at Sheraton, Rosewood and Turin International Hotels.
David Nuenemann has been appointed Food and Beverage Manager at Raffles Resort Canouan Island in the West Indies. He transfers within the group from Raffles Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten in Hamburg where he held various food and beverage management positions since he joined the hotel in 1999.
John Washko has been promoted to Vice President, Sales & Marketing at the Broadmoor. He joined the hotel in 2003 as Director of Sales. He was previously with Kerzner International for seven years, rising from National Sales Manager to Executive Director of Group Sales selling both the Atlantis and the Ocean Club.
Susan Kelly has joined the Sea Island Company as Vice President of Resort Sales and Marketing. Kelly had been the opening Chief Operating Officer and General Manager at Poets Cove Resort and Spa in British Colombia. She also served as the Executive Manager at the Hotel Bel-Air after joining the hotel as Director of Sales and Marketing. In addition, she has overseen marketing at Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica.
Les Pedersen has been named Director of Sales and Marketing at the Resort at Squaw Creek. He was most recently the Director of Sales at the Westin Resort & Spa in Whistler. Previously, he served six years as the Director of Sales and Marketing for Silvertree Properties in Aspen/Snowmass.
David Fine has been named Director of Sales and Marketing at the Broadmoor. He was most recently the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Sonesta Hotels of Florida. He previously served as the Vice President of Sales and Revenue Development at the Doral Golf Resort and Spa.
The Grace Bay Club has appointed Shaune Burgess Director of Sales and Marketing. Burgess spent the past three years as Director of Sales and Marketing at Sandy Lane in Barbados.
Sheila Hayden has been appointed Director of Sales and Marketing at the Lenox in Boston. She was most recently the Northeast Regional Director of Sales for the Garrett Hotel Group and previously spent nearly a decade at the late Swissôtel Boston.
Larry Tsoumas has joined the newly renamed Taj Boston, formerly the Ritz-Carlton Boston as Director of Sales and Marketing. For the past four years, he had been the Director of Sales and Marketing at the Peninsula Chicago. He previously oversaw sales and marketing at the Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island.
Kavin Schieferdecker has been named Area Director of Sales and Marketing for Marriott in Boston. He is relocating from Vancouver, where he was been the Director of Sales and Marketing at the Marriott Pinnacle since 2003.
Sally Jo Murren has been promoted to Director of Sales at the Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach. Since January 2003, she had been the Senior Sales Manager at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea.
Donna Frost has been appointed Director of Human Resources at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs. Frost recently served as Human Resources Manager and Director of Safety for Adam Aircraft Industries in Pueblo and previously served as the Human Resources Manager for the Pueblo City County Library District.
Christine Dodson has been named Director of Human Resources at the Hotel ZaZa Houston. Since 1998, she had been the Director of Human Resources for the Jesse H. Jones Rotary House International Marriott Conference Center in Houston.
Peter Galletti has been promoted to Vice President of Engineering and Facilities from his previous position of Director of Engineering at Sea Island Company in Georgia.
Samantha Benton has been promoted to Meetings and Special Events Manager at the Ritz-Carlton St. Thomas. She was previously the Events Concierge for the hotel.
Michael Nenner has been named Director of Rooms at the Cloister at Sea Island. He was most recently the Director of Rooms at San Ysidro Ranch and previously the Director of Guest Services at the Phoenician.
Robert Wilson has joined the Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel as Executive Chef, taking over for long-time Executive Chef Christian Rassinoux, now with the Ritz-Carlton Shanghai. Wilson had been the Executive Sous Chef at the hotel prior to being promoted to the Ritz-Carlton Dearborn as Executive Chef. Since May 2006, he had been the Executive Chef at the Ritz-Carlton Marina del Rey.
Michel Ré has joined the Westin Casuarina Las Vegas as Executive Chef. He was most recently the Executive Chef at the Beverly Hills Country Club. Previously, he spent nine years with Harrah's Entertainment in Las Vegas, serving as Executive Chef at the Flamingo Hotel & Casino and Bally's Hotel & Casino.
Bryan Caswell is leaving Bank by Jean-Georges Vongerichten at the Hotel Icon in Houston. He will be staying in Houston, opening the restaurant Reef with his former Director of Food and Beverage at the Hotel Icon, Bill Floyd. Caswell was previously the Executive Sous Chef at Dune (another Jean Georges restaurant) at the Ocean Club in the Bahamas and worked in the kitchens at Union Pacific in New York, Via Veneto in Barcelona and the Oriental hotels in Hong Kong and Bangkok. Floyd had been at the Hotel Icon since 2003 as the opening Food and Beverage Director.
Christophe Gérard has joined the newly opened Gaia Napa Valley Hotel and Spa as Executive Chef. Until a few months ago, he had been the Co-Executive Chef/Partner at Fifty Five Degrees in Sacramento. Gérard had originally moved to California to be the opening Executive Chef at Bettina Rouas’ Angèle in Napa.
Ted Cizma has been named Executive Chef at the Grand Traverse Resort. He was most recently the Executive Chef of Chicago's John G. Shedd Aquarium.
Fabrice Guisset has joined Las Ventanas Al Paraiso as Executive Chef taking over from Michel Gehrig. In 2001, he joined Paraíso de la Bonita as opening Executive Chef following one year as Executive Chef at La Jolla de Mismaloya in Puerto Vallarta.
Frank Fronda has been named Chef de Cuisine for the Blvd at the Beverly Wilshire. He was most recently the Executive Chef at Café del Rey in Marina del Rey.
Konrad Meier has been named Executive Chef at the Bedford Springs Resort in Pennsylvania, scheduled to reopen this summer. He was most recently the Executive Chef at the Lansdowne Resort after serving as the Chef at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C.
Michael Stenekes has been appointed Chef de Cuisine for Boudreau at the Discovery at Marigot Bay in St. Lucia. He was previously at the Three-Michelin-starred Fat Duck in Bray, England.
Michael McDonald has been promoted from Executive Sous Chef to Executive Chef at the Roosevelt in Hollywood, replacing Yves Bainier who is now the Executive Chef at the Bel-Air Beach Club. McDonald served as Chef de Cuisine at Avenue in Beverly Hills and at the Ritz-Carlton Palm Beach.
Also at the Roosevelt, Stephine O'Marry has been named Chef de Cuisine. She was most recently at Olives in New York.
Stéphane Cheramy has transferred to the Ritz-Carlton Orlando Grande Lakes as Executive Pastry Chef. He was most recently the Pastry Chef at the Ritz-Carlton Sarasota and was previously the Assistant Pastry Chef at the Ritz-Carlton Naples.
Michael Morrisette has joined Café del Rey as General Manager. He was most recently the General Manager at Maple Drive in Beverly Hills and was previously the General Manager at Mélisse in Santa Monica for four years.
EUROPE
Didier Le Calvez has joined Shangri-La as Executive Vice President, Europe and North America. He will be based in Paris and will also be the General Manager of the Shangri-La Hotel Palais d’Iena scheduled to open in 2009. He had been with Four Seasons since 1990, most recently as a Regional Vice President and the General Manager of the Four Seasons George V in Paris. In addition, he has held for Four Seasons the General Manager title at the Pierre and the Regent of Singapore.
Massimo Ianni joins Armani Hotels and Resorts in London as Vice President Operations. Ianni was previously the General Manager at the Hotel Faena in Buenos Aires and spent fourteen years with Hyatt International as General Manager in Belgrade, Buenos Aires and Tahiti.
Denys Courtier has been promoted within the Stein Hotel Group to Regional Director, Spain, Italy and Special Projects. He was most recently the General Manager for the group’s Grand Hotel La Florida in Barcelona. Courtier was previously the General Manager at the Hotel Lancaster in Paris following a ten-year career with Hyatt International.
Patrick Brizio has joined the Jupiter Adria Group of Companies in London as their Operations Hospitality Projects Development Director with the purpose of developing luxury hotels in Croatia and the Balkans region. He was most recently the General Manager at Discovery at Marigot Bay in St. Lucia and was previously the Managing Director at Frégate Island in the Seychelles.
Pierre Boissel has been appointed Chief Operating Officer for Ana Hotels, based in Bucharest. He was previously with InterContinental for more than 32 years in thirteen different countries.
Christopher Rudolph has been named General Manager at the Hotel du Lac in Switzerland. Rudolph, a Lausanne graduate, comes from Berlin where he was the Executive Assistant Manager at the Hotel Adlon Kempinski after serving as the Director of Food and Beverage at the Çiragan Palace Hotel Kempinski in Istanbul.
Stéphane Personeni has left his position of Director of Operations at Cannes’ Hotel Martinez, to become the General Manager of both Hotels Byblos in St. Tropez and Courchevel.
Jean-Michel Orieux is the Managing Director of London-based Ping Pong Dim Sum, a budding chain of stylish restaurants featuring “little steamed parcels of deliciousness.” There are currently six restaurants in operation, with many more under development. Orieux comes from Paul UK, where he served as Managing Director for the Paris-based chin of French bakeries and cafés. Prior to that, he was an Operations Director for Conran Restaurants.
Thierry Guillot has been promoted to General Manager at the Hyatt Regency Paris-Charles de Gaulle, replacing Jean-Pierre Marcadier who has headed for the Hyatt Regency Belgrade. Guillot was most recently the Executive Assistant Manager at the hotel after joining them in 1993 in the finance department. In addition, he has served as Director of Finance at the Hyatt Regency Paris-Madeleine and the Hyatt Regency Casablanca.
Also at the Hyatt Regency Paris Charles de Gaulle, Laurent Ebzant will be coming home this month: he who had been the Room Service Manager, Banquet Manager and the Assistant Food and Beverage Director at the hotel several years ago, is coming back as Executive Assistant Manager in mid February. Ebzant, who had left Hyatt in 2002 to join the Hotel Columbus Monaco, will be leaving his position of Assistant General Manager there to rejoin Hyatt International.
Gilles Fouilleroux has been appointed General Manager at the Baglioni Hotel Le Saint Paul, in St. Paul de Vence. He had previously been the Director of Sales and Marketing for the Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat and its sister property the Hotel de Vendôme in Paris.
Jan-Willem Roenhorst has joined Le Méridien Parkhotel Frankfurt as Resident Manager. He was most recently at the Sheraton Amsterdam Airport and previously served as Rooms Division Manager at Bilderberg and Project Manager at the Marriott corporate office.
Roberto Amodei has been appointed Financial Controller for Armani Hotels & Resorts based at the corporate office in London. He joins from Baglioni Hotels where he was the Assistant Director of Finance.
Arnaud Payet has joined the Chateau Hotel Mont Royal in Chantilly as Food and Beverage Director. He was most recently the Food and Beverage Manager at the Hotel Napoléon in Paris.
Jean-Marie Prébel has been promoted to Regional Director of Sales and Marketing, overseeing both the Warwick Paris and the Hotel Westminster. He had been the Director of Sales and Marketing at the Warwick since June 2005 after serving as the Director of Sales at the Saint James Albany.
Arcan Bayraktaroglu has been appointed Director of Business Development for the Kempinski Residences Istanbul. He previously served as the opening Director of Revenue and Marketing for the Swissôtel Ankara and the Director of Sales and Marketing at the Crowne Plaza Istanbul.
Fabrice Lasnon has transferred to the Hotel Adlon Kempinski in Berlin as Executive Chef. For the past three years, he has been the Executive Chef at the Çiragan Palace Kempinski Istanbul.
ASIA AND THE PACIFIC
Joseph Polito has joined MSPA International in Bangkok as Director South Asia. He comes from Cambodia where he was the General Manager at the Hotel de la Paix. He previously held a dual role with Alila Hotels and Resorts as the Director of Operations Thailand and the General Manager of the Alila Phuket Villas.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Hawaii has appointed Don Elliot, Vice President, Operations in support of the redevelopment of the Sheraton Waikiki, Sheraton Moana Surfrider, the Royal Hawaiian and Sheraton Princess Kaiulani hotels. He joined Starwood in 1983 as Assistant Controller at the Moana. Most recently, he had the dual role of Area Manager for the Sub-Sahara African Region of Starwood and General Manager of the Sheraton Pretoria in South Africa.
Paul Tchen has been named General Manager, Operations Planning & Support for the Peninsula Group. He joined the Group in 1992 as Purchasing Manager of the Peninsula Beverly Hills then relocated to Hong Kong in 1993 and has been promoted to different positions within the Peninsula Hong Kong. Since 2004, he has served as Vice President, Operations Planning and Support for the group.
John Rolfs has been named Managing Director/Vice President for the Ritz-Carlton Central Place Beijing and the JW Marriott Central Place, Beijing. Rolfs, a Cornell graduate, has been with Ritz-Carlton since 1989, serving as General Manager at the Ritz-Carlton Phoenix, the Ritz-Carlton Aspen, the Ritz-Carlton Osaka, among others. In 2005, he was promoted to Area Vice President for the Ritz-Carlton, South Florida hotels and General Manager for the Ritz-Carlton South Beach.
Derek Flint has been promoted to the Ritz-Carlton Beijing Financial District as General Manager, taking over for Vincent Mercurio, who is relocating to the United States and will be acting General Manager at the Ritz-Carlton Lake Las Vegas following the departure of Mark Stevenson. Flint comes from the Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore where he was the Hotel Manager. He has previously served as Senior Corporate Director of Rooms for Ritz-Carlton and Executive Assistant Manager-Rooms Division at the Ritz-Carlton New York Central Park and the Ritz-Carlton San Francisco.
Christophe Sadones moves to Shanghai as the opening General Manager of the Park Hyatt Shanghai due to open May 2008. Sadones, a Lausanne graduate, previously held the dual role of Resident Manager at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo and General Manager of Tokyo’s Roppongi Hills Club, operated by Hyatt International.
Albert Rouwendal has been promoted to General Manager at the Kempinski Resort and Spa Sanya in China. He was most recently the Hotel Manager at the Kempinski Beijing.
Fritz Schenkel has transferred as General Manager to the Kempinski Chengdu in China. He comes from the Kempinski Hotel Urumqui where he was the General Manager after serving as General Manager at the Hotel Daewoo Hanoi.
Aurelio Giraudo has been appointed General Manager at the Nai Lert Park Raffles International in Bangkok, taking over from Blaise Montandon. He was most recently the General Manager at the Grand Formosa Regent Taipei after serving as General Manager at the Imperial Angkor Palace.
Marc Gussing is the opening General Manager for the Alila Cha Am in Thailand. He was most recently at Huvafen Fushi in the Maldives as Director of Operations.
Jorge Smith has been appointed General Manager at Cocoa Island in the Maldives. He moves from Bangkok where he most recently held the deputy role at the Metropolitan. Prior to Bangkok, he was at the Dusit Laguna in Phuket as Director of Operations.
Philippe Lamadieu has joined the SALA Samui Resort & Spa as General Manager. He previously served as General Manager at the Emerald in Bangkok and the Bandara Resort & Spa.
Hossein Vetry has been promoted at the Portman Ritz-Carlton Shanghai to Hotel Manager. He joined the hotel last March as the Executive Assistant Manager Food and Beverage after serving as the Director of Food and Beverage at the Ritz-Carlton San Francisco.
The Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong has appointed Anthony Costa Resident Manager. He was most recently the Hotel Manager at the Four Seasons Dublin and previously held senior managerial roles with Radisson SAS in Leeds and Helsinki.
Matthias Al-Amiry has been promoted to Resident Manager of the Peninsula Manila. Since 2003 he had been the Executive Assistant Manager, Food and Beverage, at the hotel. Before coming to the Philippines, he was the Director of Food and Beverage at Raffles’ Vier Jahreszeiten in Hamburg.
Carcosa Seri Negara in Kuala Lumpur has named Carla Petzold-Beck Hotel Manager. She comes from Nicaragua, where she was the General Manager of Morgan’s Rock Hacienda & Ecolodge, for two years before moving on to become General Manager of Coldwell Banker Nicaragua, focusing on incoming hotel development projects. She is a Cornell graduate.
The Langham Hong Kong has appointed Christoph Szymanski as Executive Assistant Manager-Rooms. Since 2005, he served as the Director of Food and Beverage at the Aberdeen Marina Club in Hong Kong (operated by Shangri-La). He previously held various positions at the Harbour Plaza Hong Kong and the Kowloon Hotel, in addition to running his own lodging business in New Zealand for three years.
The Orchard Singapore has appointed Ruprecht Schmitz Executive Assistant Manager. He comes from Paris where he was the Rooms Division Manager at the Millennium Hotel Paris Opera.
Eric Teo was promoted to Director of Food and Beverage at the Orchard Singapore. He joined the hotel in 2003 as Executive Chef.
Tommy Lai Chi-On rejoins Meritus Hotels as Director of Sales and Marketing for the Shanghai JC Mandarin and Regional Director of Sales for the Global Sales Office in China. After joining the group a decade ago in the Hong Kong regional office, Chi-On left to pursue sales roles with the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong and Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts in Hong Kong and Thailand.
Els Ramadhinta has been appointed Director of Public Relations for the Ritz-Carlton Jakarta and the Ritz-Carlton Pacific Place, scheduled to open in July. Ramadhinta previously held positions with Accor Indonesia and the Pan Pacific Jakarta.
Anton Kilayko has been appointed Director of Sales and Marketing for the Eastern & Oriental Express and the Road to Mandalay based in Singapore. Since 2000, he had been at the Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore, most recently as the Director of Public Relations. He began his career at the Ritz-Carlton Cancun as a Conference Services Concierge.
Martin MacLeod is the new Executive Chef at the Mandarin Oriental Jakarta. He was previously the Executive Chef at the Oberoi Bali and the Regent Taipei. In addition, he has worked at the Peninsula Chicago first as the Banquet Chef, then as the Executive Sous Chef.
Gérald Bergue has been named Executive Chef at Velavaru in the Maldives. He was most recently the Executive Sous Chef at the BayanTree Seychelles and was previously the Executive Chef at the Anjajavy Hotel in Madagascar.
Lausanne graduate Matthias Terrettaz has transferred to the Ritz-Carlton Tokyo as the opening Assistant Director of Food and Beverage. For the past four years, he had been in a similar position at the Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong and has held various positions at the Ritz-Carlton New York Central Park and the Ritz-Carlton San Francisco.
Cristiano Rinaldi has been promoted to the position of General Manager for the two Bulgari Food and Beverage establishments, located in Omotesando and Ginza in Tokyo. Cristiano joined the Ritz-Carlton Doha in July 2001 as Food and Beverage Manager. In January 2004, Cristiano joined Bulgari Hotels and Resorts in Milan as Food and Beverage Manager.
MIDDLE EAST AND AFRICA
Marc Dardenne has left Ritz-Carlton after seven years to become the Chief Executive Officer of Dubai-based Emaar’s Hospitality Division. The fast growing division develops hotels, golf courses, polo grounds and serviced apartments. Dardenne’s last position with Ritz-Carlton was that of Vice President/Area General Manager based at Doha’s Sharq Village and Spa. A Lausanne graduate, he originally joined Ritz-Carlton from Hyatt as General Manager of the Ritz-Carlton Bali. In 2002 he became the General Manager of the Ritz-Carton Dubai.
Hasif Hijazi has been appointed General Manager of the Petra Marriott Hotel in Jordan. He was most recently at the Jordan Valley Marriott Resort & Spa as Director of Rooms Operations.
Hassan Ragab has joined the Hilton Baynunah and the Hilton Corniche Hotel Apartments in Abu Dhabi as General Manager. He was previously the General Manager of the Hilton Cairo World Trade Centre and the Egyptian Business Club in Egypt.
Christoph Ganster has been appointed Executive Assistant Manager in charge of Food and Beverage at the Raffles Dubai, scheduled to open in late summer 2007. He transfers within the group from the Raffles Resort Canouan Island and previously held food and beverage management positions at the Lemuria Resort, One&Only Kanuhura and Labourdonnais Waterfront Hotel, in Mauritius.
Santhosh Nair has been appointed Director of Finance for the Al Sondos Suites and Dar Al Sondos Hotel Apartments both by Le Méridien in Dubai. Most recently, he was the Director of Finance at the Sheraton Dammam Hotel & Towers and the Hyatt Regency Jeddah.
Reinhold Nagler has transferred to the Four Seasons Nile Plaza in Cairo as Director of Food and Beverage. He was most recently in the same position at the Four Seasons Golf Club Dubai at Festival City. Nagler originally joined Four Seasons from Ritz-Carlton in 2002, at the Four Seasons Ryiadh, first as Executive Chef, then as Director of Food and Beverage.
Frédéric Perrin takes over for Nagler as Club Director of Food and Beverage for the Four Seasons Golf Club Dubai Festival City. He was most recently the Assistant Director of Food and Beverage at the Four Seasons Riyadh where he had been for the last five years after joining the company at the Four Seasons Palm Beach in 1994. Perrin, a Lausanne graduate, also spent a few years at the Boca Raton Resort & Club.
Barry Vitel has been named Corporate Director of Human Resources for Jebel Ali International. He was most recently the Director of Human Resources for the Novotel and Ibis World Trade Centre Dubai.
Dany Kattar is the new Executive Chef at the InterContinental Mzaar in Lebanon. He comes from the Holiday Inn Downtown Kuwait where his assistant, Emmanuel Thomas, replaces him as Executive Chef. Kattar has been with InterContinental for over five years with previous postings at the InterContinental Abu Dhabi and Crowne Plaza Beirut.
