The two signings come one month ahead of the opening of Kimpton Fitzroy London.
Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, acquired by IHG in January 2015, is renowned for its innovative and playful design and personal approach to guest service, using thoughtful perks and amenities, and a sense of delight, to make guests feel truly at home. Kimpton is also recognised for its award-winning collection of seasonally inspired destination restaurants and bars, led by talented chefs and bartenders that offer guests the chance to dine like a local, reflecting their view that there’s more to travel than stylish accommodation.
The first Kimpton to open in the UK, Kimpton Fitzroy London will be located in the city’s Bloomsbury neighbourhood in an iconic heritage building which originally opened in 1898. Opening in late October, Kimpton Fitzroy London is named after the original architect of the hotel, Charles Fitzroy Doll, and will be home to glamourous cocktail bar, Fitz’s Bar.
With an opening planned for 2019, Kimpton Barcelona will see the brand enter Spain and offer guests a luxury experience and stunning views of the popular city from its rooftop. The property will have 156 stylish rooms and will be located in the city’s famed old town in close proximity to the famous ‘La Rambla’ street.
Kimpton Bangkok is the first hotel announced for the Kimpton brand in Thailand and second in the South East Asia region. The 349-room hotel will open in 2020 in the city’s Langsuan area by the leafy Lumpini Park. With easy access to the bustling districts Sukhumvit, Silom, Siam and Suvarnabhumi Airport, the hotel will be desirable to a mix of leisure and business travellers.
Abhijay Sandilya, IHG’s Senior Director of Development – Australasia, commented: “We are delighted to see the Kimpton brand expand globally and would love to bring the brand to Australia too. As part of our continual growth we are actively looking at potential locations and owner partners to complement the brand and market."
“We have identified Kimpton as a key opportunity to accelerate our growth in the lifestyle segment in Australia. We know that there is a growing segment of travellers – whether they are on a business or leisure trip – who are looking for an experience beyond bed and board. Therefore, we are confident of the potential of Kimpton in Australia, which provides that unique experience but at the same time, also a sense of reliability and familiarity, as it is part of one of the world’s largest hotel companies.”
In 2017, the brand opened its first Kimpton in Europe with the Kimpton De Witt in Amsterdam. The brand has also recently announced signings in Tokyo, Bali, Frankfurt and Paris as well as Taipei opening in the coming months.
