Beginning with the capital, Six Senses Thimphu places strong emphasis on incorporating the spirit of the grand architectural elements of a dzong (fortress) and clouds thereby lending the name of Palace in the Sky to the largest in the collection. The second is Six Senses Punakha, located in the relatively low-lying valley of Punakha which takes inspiration from the farms and vegetable terraces across the valley and the traditional cantilever bridges of Bhutan to create a Flying Farmhouse amidst Rice Fields.

Moving further towards central Bhutan is the quaint glacial valley of Phobjikha, famous for being the winter residence of black-necked cranes. This valley is home to Six Senses Gangtey which is fondly called the Traditional Birdwatching Bridge due to its principal bridge-like building with a large glass area overlooking the valley where these sacred birds roam freely.

Traveling further east, but still in the central area of Bhutan, is the Kingdom’s spiritual center with its stunning landscape and beautiful monasteries. Six Senses Bumthang is located in an evergreen pine forest and with its sensitive fusing to trees and gardens fondly referred to as Forest in a Forest. The fifth resort in the collection is Six Senses Paro. Located at a stunning elevation overlooking the Paro Valley and next to an ancient stone ruins of a dzong, this lodge is affectionately called Stone Ruins.

The Thimphu, Paro and Punakha resorts will open in October 2018 with reservations now being accepted for stays starting on November 3, 2018. Gangtey and Bumthang resorts open in early 2019.

General Manager Mark Swinton said, “There is so much to explore in this mystical Himalayan Kingdom, with its cultural, natural and spiritual beauty making a compelling choice. With the nation’s driving force being Gross National Happiness, the Kingdom has protected its identity while progressing with the world. Compassion is a way of life in Bhutan and it extends to the protection of nature and sustainability. Six Senses Bhutan shares these values and has become an integral part of the local fabric.

Activities have been designed to showcase the best of Bhutan. The emphasis on experiences and service is brought alive by our GEMs (Guest Experience Makers) who act as guides and assist guests in every manner possible to create an authentic Bhutanese and true Six Senses experience. Meditating at the prayer pavilion in the reflecting ponds overlooking the giant Buddha statue across the valley; hiking up to Chorten Ningpo in Punakha; participating in local farm activities in Gangtey; treehouse dining at Bumthang; and a private dinner in the 15th century stone ruins at Paro are just a few of the magical experiences created for guests of Six Senses Bhutan.”

Each location will have its own Spa & Wellness Center with extensive facilities and treatments reflecting the valley in which they are set. Therapies range from hot stone baths in Thimphu and Bumthang to a pyramid meditation room and swedana treatment at Gangtey, to a dip in the heated outdoor pool at Punakha or treatment in a spa room overlooking the ruins in Paro. The focus on well-being is emphasized with programs that include Six Senses Integrated Wellness in Punakha to start with, Sleep With Six Senses and Eat With Six Senses.

Getting There: Bhutan is served by Druk Air and Bhutan Airlines. International destinations on scheduled flights are Bangkok, New Delhi, Kolkata, Singapore, Kathmandu, Dhaka, Bagdogra, Guwahati and Gaya. Domestic flights are available between Paro and Bumthang. Helicopter charters are available from Paro airport and private jet assistance is offered by Bhutan Air Services.

Rates & Reservations and Special Opening Offer: Reservations are being accepted for stays starting November 3, 2018 for Six Senses Thimphu, Punakha and Paro. Suite rates start at USD1,500++ for double occupancy and as a special opening offer until February 28, 2019 inclusive of breakfast, lunch and dinner (restaurant dining or picnic). An opening offer for stays between November 3, 2018 and February 28, 2019 for five consecutive nights at one or more of the resorts includes a car and driver plus a guide during the stay at Six Senses Bhutan.
