Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon has relaunched its online city guide, www.cityguidelisbon.com, with a sleek, magazine-like look that reflects the city’s exuberance and energy. And with the Hotel’s own team masquerading as the "pens" and "passion" behind it, the new look guide is a wonderfully personal insight into a city famous for celebrating its own culture, quirks and eclecticism over mainstream commercialism.
The site has clocked an impressive half a million views since its original launch in 2014, but the new-look version brings a more intuitive and interactive browsing experience designed to connect visitors to Lisbon’s sights and sounds, food and fashion – from the boldly bohemian to the beautifully bizarre – through the eyes of the locals who know and love it the best.
The Hotel’s Director of Communications and Public Relations, Diana Castello Branco, comments, “The new-look guide is a response to the needs of the digital age we live in. We want our guests to take it with them and use it as their own personal concierge on mobile. It’s very responsive and mobile-friendly, with a great ‘pin-point’ overview of each neighbourhood, up-to-the-minute dining section, and calendar to see what’s on during your visit. We’ve packed it with helpful hints and have had a lot of fun too – the whole idea after all is to help people fall in love with the city as much as those of us who live here!”
So, what else is new? Frequently changing Editors’ Picks; a super interactive map designed around how visitors actually explore a city; insiders’ gossip on all the greatest and latest hotspots and areas, architecture and ambience; plus Lisbon-inspired playlists, books and movies to help get visitors in the mood. There’s also a section on local personalities and the chance to see Lisbon through their eyes.
Working alongside Diana to create and contribute to the blog are the Hotel’s Social Media and Marketing Co-ordinator Catarina Mendonça – who cites “Lisbon’s water, culture and buzz” as her top three draws – and Director of Sales and Marketing Henri Poudensan, who has lived in Lisbon now for 17 years and loves the city “for its unapologetic enjoyment of life.” Their combined passion for the city shines through each thoughtful section to create a guide packed with personality and feeling.
“Lisbon is the perfect juxtaposition of old-world charm and avant-garde chic, from hanging canary bird cages to haute couture boutiques,” concludes Castello Branco. “Through this revamped version of the Guide and blog we have gone all out, like never before, to showcase the city’s energy and dynamism. We want to encourage guests to look past the cobbled alleyways and traditional tiled buildings to discover a more eclectic ensemble of stories, styles and surprises; to feel a connection to the core of Lisbon. We truly hope our guests love using it it as much as we enjoyed creating it.”
