It is now reverting to its original name of Steigenberger Wiltcher's, which it held between 1913 and 1925, and is fully focused on regaining its privileged and historic position in the city.
Wiltcher's is a prestigious 5-star property that enjoys the status of being one of Brussels' most legendary hotels. It was named for Sydney-Charles Wiltcher, a son of English immigrants who was engaged by Joseph de Crawhez to commence work on the Beaux-Arts style building in the early 20th century. The unique architecture he created and the oasis of well-being, high-end comfort and entertainment now on offer means that Belgium's original luxury hotel is very much back in business.
Luxurious and elegant, Steigenberger Wiltcher's is undeniably the most beautiful high-end hotel in the capital. Every one of its 225 rooms and 42 suites offers the same unparalleled combination of quality, comfort and modernity. Wiltcher's' spacious ballroom makes it the ideal venue for conferences, international conventions or private receptions and the Loui Bar, recognised as one of the best hotel bars in Brussels, was awarded "Best Hotel Bar in Europe 2010" at the prestigious Villégiature Awards. Enjoy tea, coffee or a cocktail and unwind in one of the cosy leather chairs or sofas in this sumptuous setting lined with exquisite panelling.
The bar, lobby and restaurant have all undergone thorough modernisation and a complete redesign. Plans are in place to launch a number of exciting events at the hotel in the near future. These will include jazz piano sessions and arts lunches, and there will even be a special "Chocolate and Tea Time" event, which aims to introduce children to contemporary art. Pastry chef Michaël Derolez has been given the task of refreshing the dessert menu to satisfy even the most indulgent of culinary desires.
The D-Lounge cigar room, the restaurant and the bar will be reopened to bring their own unique appeal to Avenue Louise, one of Brussels' busiest streets alongside all of the art galleries and luxury boutiques.
A reinvented restaurant means an updated menu. Dutch chef Tjaco van Eijken's subtle, authentic cuisine is bursting with flavour and attention to detail and will provide a real treat for both locals and international visitors. A famous face in the industry and winner of numerous awards for the quality and inventiveness of his culinary creations, Tjaco Eijken, has been in charge of the kitchens of high-end properties in Brussels, Paris, Amsterdam, Hong Kong and Ho Chi Minh City, all of which have further enriched his variety of flavours.
"Wiltcher's is one of our top hotels. Its flair and its extremely hospitable atmosphere make it a favourite, not only for Heads of State and Government or Diplomats," says Puneet Chhatwal, CEO Steigenberger Hotels AG. "We would like to congratulate General Manager Claude Rath on the extremely successful refurbishment work.
