Adam D. Tihany of Tihany Design has been contracted to conceptualize and design the French-inspired bistro and wine bar that will be Chef Daniel Boulud’s first restaurant in Boston. Following the successful format of the original Bar Boulud, which opened in 2008 on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, and the second location at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London in 2010, Bar Boulud, Boston will have a similar contemporary wine bar and restaurant look and feel, while featuring locally inspired French bistro fare created by Chef de Cuisine, Aaron Chambers.

Tihany Design, who has previously worked with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group and Chef Daniel Boulud, sought to bring the space to life with a vibrant yet approachable interior. Bar Boulud, Boston will boast several signature features including a seven-seat marble-clad charcuterie counter and a distinctive glass enclosed wine cellar. A glass étagère will serve as the focal point for a 17-seat glowing, zinc top bar. Vintage oak, leather and stone will be the backdrop for whimsical wine-centric murals, channel tufted banquette, and a 10-seat communal table. Sliding glass doors facing Boylston Street open to the restaurant’s intimate 55-seat bar and lounge space.

Guests will be able to enter the space through the lobby of Mandarin Oriental, Boston or directly from Boylston Street. Positioned at the entrance, guests will be greeted by a host station flanked by feature walls made of French wine crates evoking a wine cellar experience. In the center of the 68-seat main dining room, a row of rich burgundy leather booths will run parallel to the restaurant’s vaulted wood ceiling, a dramatic design reminiscent of wine barrels. Moving further into the restaurant, guests will be able to enjoy a 22-seat private dining room, which can be separated by a contemporary sliding barn door.

Bar Boulud, Boston will be the third location for Chef Daniel Boulud’s bistro and wine bar, Tihany Design’s third collaboration with Daniel Boulud and fourteenth with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group; previous locations include Hong Kong, Las Vegas, London and Geneva. Tihany Design is a multidisciplinary design atelier known for successfully integrating bold, contemporary designs in landmark spaces, with a concentration in luxury hospitality design. Tihany Design projects are located in several of the world’s most cosmopolitan cities and exclusive resorts, and are characterized by their strong sense of place and unique authenticity to each locale.
