Great Hotels of the World (http://www.ghotw.com) is delighted to announce that its member hotel, Argos in Cappadocia (http://www.ghotw.com/argos-cappadocia-hotel), has entirely revamped its SEKI Restaurant by extending its capacity, and changing its menu and beverage offerings with the introduction of a wine cellar.

”Seki” is a local word which means “the terraces on the slope”, reflecting the surrounding natural rock and soil formations that make up Cappadocia’s unique landscape. Responding to the demand of its guests, Argos in Cappadocia has spent four months renovating and redecorating its restaurant. SEKI Restaurant can now accommodate up to 100 guests in its dining room as well as on the property’s outdoor terrace, which boasts stunning views over the fairytale landscape and valley below.

Argos in Cappadocia has redesigned the SEKI Restaurant with a completely new feel and menu. It has integrated international cooking techniques to innovate the regional and traditional Turkish dishes and ingredients it serves. Guests can begin their gastronomic journey with dishes such as duck confit wrapped in chard leaves, served with a spicy apricot sauce and roasted almonds; followed by an entree of lamb cutlets with grape molasses, “firik” pilaf and fresh garden herbs; and end their experience with a traditional quince dessert with mince and clotted cream, a unique, local treat. All dishes at SEKI are produced with fresh, local ingredients and whenever possible, chefs will use home-grown herbs from the newly cultivated herb garden onsite. Diners are even invited to join the chefs and handpick fresh herbs for their meals.

Additionally, the property has made use of its ancient wine cellar to create a magnificent wine treasury, becoming one of the largest underground cellars in the region. Guests now have the opportunity to descend into the cellar and pick their desired bottle of wine to enjoy alongside their dinner. SEKI’s wine cellar now houses select wines and sweet wines from a variety of Turkish producers along with world-class wines that reflect the character of Cappadocia, including varieties made from the hotel’s own Kalecik Karası and Şiraz grapes. The newly added wine cellar has facilitated a brand new offering - wine cellar tours and wine tasting classes. Guests can now receive detailed information on Anatolian winemaking and Turkish winemakers, proving a unique experience for guests.

Esin Sungur, Assistant Manager of Argos in Cappadocia comments; “We are delighted to introduce our newly refurbished SEKI restaurant and a new menu as it brings together local, fresh ingredients with international cooking techniques, thus resulting in a great culinary bridge. Our new wine cellar is one of a kind and a haven for all wine lovers as it is an original underground cellar dating back thousands of years. We put a lot of emphasis on Turkish wines in the new wine list. There are wines from all over our country as Anatolia is a great vine country that not many people are aware of. As a result, and because of our own vineyards where we grow Syrah and Kalecik Karasi – a local Pinot Noir style grape, Argos in Capppadocia has recently been selected as one of the top wine resorts in the world by departures.com.”

For those guests who are looking to relax, the SEKİ lounge provides comfort at every hour of the day. The lounge has stunning views of the valley and the mountains ahead. During the summer months, gentle breezes offer respite from the heat on the outdoor terrace, while in the colder months a crackling fire makes for a cozy indoor retreat. The small food menu includes items such as, mini veal skewers flavoured with spicy apricot sauce and a goat cheese and marinated strawberry salad, picked straight from the SEKİ garden. Furthermore, guests can sample a wide selection of cocktails, Turkish coffee, sherry or one of the many Tokaji sweet wines served in the SEKI lounge.
