Accor was already on Twitter via Accorhotels and several hotel pages but recently opened its first official Twitter account, which is 100% dedicated to posting news from around the Group. It is self-explanatorily called Accor News and the goal is to promote the Group’s initiatives and highlights. It complements Accor’s Facebook page.

Why is Accor on Twitter?

Opening a “News” page providing direct Group news feeds is Accor’s way of putting the various key initiatives and developments – focusing on the company, employees and brands – in the spotlight.
It is a new communication channel to liaise with journalists, opinion leaders and, more generally, anyone interested in what is going on around the Group.
Accorhotels teams also run several Twitter accounts around the world, which count nearly 20,000 followers in total, and many Group hotels also have official pages.

What Twitter is

It is considered one of the world’s top-3 social media and allows its nearly 400 million registered members to send short (140 characters maximum) messages (“tweets”) effortlessly and free of charge.
It was established in March 2006 and has not stopped growing since. It has become an essential communication channel for journalists and politicians, as well as businesses. The principle is simple: users opt in to accounts for updates from friends, business firms, political parties, stars, the media, etc. Once they become “followers”, users are free to share their favourite tweets with their own networks, or interact directly with the people who posted those tweets!
