The White House of the West Now Offers a Private Club Venue for the San Francisco Consular Corps and Visiting Dignitaries
The Fairmont San Francisco unveiled its Diplomat Club yesterday during the first 2012 meeting of the San Francisco Consular Corps, which took place during a luncheon in the hotel’s newly established venue. The Diplomat Club’s creation was inspired by the over 75 Consul General Missions in the Bay Area, with the aim of offering a dedicated setting where they would be able to utilize The Fairmont San Francisco and its services as a “home away from home.”
Often referred to as “The White House of the West” or “Residence of Presidents”, The Fairmont San Francisco has been the official home base for the San Francisco Consular Corps for many years and has celebrated a number of the most important and memorable occasions tied to diplomatic endeavors. In 1945, The United Nations Charter was drafted in the hotel’s Garden Room and its famed Penthouse Suite was used by U.S. Secretary of State Edward Stettinius as his headquarters during the United Nations Convention.
“For decades, The Fairmont San Francisco has proudly served the diplomatic community, and we now look forward to further enhancing our ability to cater to the uniquely specific needs of this important group through the Diplomat Club,” commented Regional Vice President and General Manager Thomas Klein. “Club members will receive a number of personalized hotel privileges and dedicated service while having a truly special place to call their own.”
Located on the Arcade level of the hotel directly across from its Intersect Media Lounge, the Diplomat Club not only offers an elegant setting for meetings and business-related events, but also functions as an ideal venue for a social soiree, boasting a full bar, dining area, billiard room and private dining room.
Prior to its incarnation as The Diplomat Club, the 3,700 square foot space served as a series of restaurants throughout the years, and as a movie theater in the 1940s. In order to transform the already grand space, updated furniture and international décor were brought in along with historical photos from diplomatic visits, which are displayed throughout the Club.
