The Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial (FOSS4G) conference, the premier international conference focused on open source geospatial software, will take place at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel September 12-16, 2011. Conference planners expect more than 800 attendees from 35 countries and 43 states to be in attendance.
In addition to the strong interest in content from current free and open source geospatial software users, there is a growing interest for this year’s event from those that have not explored the technology in the past. Many event registrants are responding to the full-day introduction to open source technology as well as to the blog posts from top technology developers that have articulated reasons for attending the conference.
“We are trilled to bring this first-ever U.S. conference to Colorado,” states Peter Batty, FOSS4G conference chair. “The Sheraton Denver Downtown is a great venue for our event, providing all the facilities that we need in one place.” He continued that a hotel is a much better environment for a networking and socializing conference than a large convention center.
Major sponsors for the event include: Esri, RadiantBlue, Google, OpenGeo, MapQuest, Newmont, and Safe Software. Bronze level sponsors include: AppGeo, Azavea, Camptocamp, EOX, GeoCat, GeoIQv GeoSolutions, Korem, MapGears, Metaspatial, NBT Solutions, Oracle Spatial, SkyGone, Spatial Networks, Spatialytics, Terrestris, Ubisense, and USGIF. For additional information on the conference, see http://2011.foss4g.org.
The Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel, Colorado’s largest hotel, is located at 1550 Court Place on Denver’s world-famous 16th Street Pedestrian Mall. The hotel is known for its state-of-the art technology and boasts the largest technology pipeline in Colorado’s hotel community. The hotel is managed by Starwood Hotels & Resorts, (NYSE: HOT).
