Mandarin Orchard Singapore was conferred the Singapore Green Hotel at the recently-concluded Singapore Green Hotel Award presentation. Organised by the Singapore Hotel Association (SHA) and supported by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), National Environment Agency (NEA), Public Utilities Board (PUB) and Singapore Tourism Board (STB), the Singapore Green Hotel Award seeks to recognise hotels for their endeavour in adopting environmentally-friendly practices to conserve the Earth.

Standing tall in the heart of Orchard Road and long regarded as the icon of world-class hospitality in Singapore, Mandarin Orchard Singapore is dedicated to championing the sustainability of Mother Earth through its continued green efforts. These energy conservation measures include fitting lower wattage and higher efficient light bulbs in all its 1,051 guestrooms, installing timers to dim or switch off lighting during off-peak periods and keeping the air-conditioning temperature at 24.5 Degree Celsius at public areas and staircases, as well as optimising the chiller plants and equipment in the hotel.

The green initiatives are also extended to all hotel guests and employees at the Mandarin Orchard. Whilst guests are invited to participate in the campaign by reusing their towels, all staff are strongly encouraged to practise the 3Rs – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle in their daily tasks, from cleaning guestrooms, setting up events to managing waste in the kitchens. Recycling bins are available on every guest floor at back of the house areas and the hotel uses environmentally-friendly products such as biodegradable cleaning agents, whenever possible. Mandarin Orchard Singapore also champions to be ecologically responsible by offering alternative menu options for endangered species.

Mr John Sartain, General Manager of Mandarin Orchard Singapore was at the ceremony to receive the award from Singapore Hotel Association. “Corporate sustainability is a key priority to the hotel and we are indeed proud to receive this accolade, as a testament of this commitment.” Mr Sartain says.

“At Mandarin Orchard Singapore, every one has a role to play in saving the Earth and we will forge on with our dedication to environmental conservation whilst ensuring the guest experience remains uncompromised.”
