Metropole Hotel pioneers exclusive club for Hanoi wine enthusiasts
On an ordinary day, Hanoi’s wine lovers can be found searching cellars, scrutinizing labels and sniffing corks across the capital. May 28th 2011 is not an ordinary day.
A handful of the city’s most dedicated wine drinkers and the planet’s most extraordinary wines will converge at one table in the Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi for the launch of the hotel’s Connoisseur Club on May 28th.
Angelina, the Metropole’s trendy Italian restaurant and lounge is the stage for the first of the Connoisseur Club’s signature events, designed to introduce Hanoi’s wine enthusiasts to vintages rated 90 points and above by world-acclaimed wine writer and critic, Robert Parker.
Thibault Souchon, the hotel’s director of food and beverage, says the club was created to recognize the Metropole’s most loyal wine customers.
“We built the Connoisseur Club on the concepts of sharing and discovery,” said Souchon. “Wine tastings are not new to Vietnam, but the Metropole always aims for a more selective and memorable experience. A Connoisseur Club event is a one-of-a-kind affair that gathers members for the best wine tasting in the country.”
In collaboration with supporting wine suppliers, the Metropole plans to present a different rare wine every two months, complemented by tailored menus from visiting and resident star chefs.
Old world and new, on and off-site, the Metropole is switching things up to present a distinctive experience at each event.
On May 28th, attendees at the club’s opening event will savor vintages from a high-end Italian winery, Massolino. Dinner will be prepared by celebrated Michelin-star Chef Dell’ Aquilla of the Hotel Altira in Macao. On a cool evening in October, club members will gather in the ancient Temple of Literature, one of Hanoi’s most culturally-significant sites, for another premium wine and dinner pairing.
As a gesture of appreciation, there is no fee for joining the country’s most elite wine club. Members are selected by the Metropole, and are given a 50 percent discount to be used at one event of their choice. Depending on the availability of wine, events may include 20 to 40 members.
“The Metropole will continue to host bi-monthly wine dinners open to hotel guests and residents,” said Souchon. “But we feel it’s our duty to introduce new opportunities for customers who we see are thirsty to learn more. The Connoisseur Club is about enjoying outstanding wines, expanding knowledge and developing a passion. We want them to come away feeling they have shared in something unforgettable.”
Sofitel Legend: legendary hotels, ultimate service
Created by Sofitel Luxury Hotels, Sofitel Legend is a label, a seal, a private club of centennial establishments, in buildings that are often listed, on sites with a mythical heritage that are landmark attractions in their city or country. Each Sofitel is a unique gem, the promise of a voyage steeped in history and luxury, to a place where legend and reality merge into one.
The hallmark of the Legend label, service is at the heart of this experience. Precise and elegant gestures, considerate and devoted attention, discreet and efficient care – everything is done to anticipate the needs of each guest and ease his or her daily life.
The Metropole Hanoi is the first hotel in this collection. As soon as their refurbishment is completed, other hotels will become part of Sofitel Legend: the Grand Amsterdam (The Netherlands), the Old Cataract Assouan (Egypt), the Santa Clara (Colombia), the Winter Palace Luxor (Egypt), the Palais Jamaï (Morocco), the Cecil Alexandria (Egypt)…and more.
