Shilla’s outstanding art collection includes a new installation masterpiece by celebrated Korean artist Seon Ghi Bahk
A 2011 ‘Gallery Package’ at The Shilla Seoul, showcases South Korea's premier 5-star hotel as a prominent exhibitor of contemporary, Oriental and international art.
The Shilla Seoul is widely renowned for its outstanding art collection including Picasso and Salvador Dali, and is fondly known as ‘The Gallery Hotel’.
Now the superb collection is being promoted with a ‘Gallery at The Shilla’ package, including a guide to the acclaimed art, as well as tickets to the celebrated Leeum Museum of Art in Seoul.
On offer throughout 2011 except 23 July – 15 August and 24 – 31 December, the package is priced at KRW320,000 a night for two in a Deluxe Room or KRW350,000 in Grand Deluxe accommodation.
Breakfast for two is included, as well as L’Occitane room amenities, complementary use of gym, sauna and pool facilities, plus a duty free voucher worth KRW10,000 and VIP Gold Card for duty free shopping with 5-15% discounts.
The Shilla houses a vast collection of paintings, drawings, pottery and sculptures. Prominent Korean and international artists extend from Salvador Dali and Picasso to Antonia Pierre and American pop artists Tom Wesselmann and Bill Thompson.
New in the lobby area is the latest eye-catching hanging sculpture of thousands of clear acrylic beads by famous Korean contemporary installation artist Seon Ghi Bahk – the climax of his grand masterpiece series ‘An Aggregate' and three times bigger than any of his works before.
A vast curbstone decoration and ‘Sun’ relief by Kuk Kwang Jhun on the wall of the second floor represents Korea’s artistic heritage of traditional beauty, designed by a skilled stonemason when the hotel was preparing for opening.
In the VIP bar of The Library there are now a total of eight prints by Pablo Picasso, the founder of Cubism.
Signature restaurant, The Parkview, features American pop art with 'Pomodoro' by Bill Thompson and 'Woman in Green Blouse' by Tom Wesselmann. The Pastry Boutique & Arcade showcases 'Subterfuge' by Tony Delap, a pioneer of minimalism.
Multi award-winning Chinese restaurant Palsun features a specifically commissioned collection of complementary western and eastern art, including works by celebrated Korean artist Sae Ok Seo, the potter Young Sook Park, and famous Spanish sculptor Eduardo Chillida.
On the 23rd floor, complementing majestic views over the city are works by the French artist Armand, while the expansive Banquet Hall and Conference Centre, exhibit prestigious works by Salvador Dali, Picasso, Antonia Pierre and the Korean artist Ki Chang Kim.
The Shilla is also well known for its outdoor ‘Sculpture Garden’ set in its own 23-acre private park in the heart of downtown Seoul. This idyllic rural setting in the heart of the city features famous sculptures by leading sculptors including Hyun Ok Paik, Chang Hee Kim, Jung Soo Ko and Chang Hee Kim.
