From 16th March 2011 Spiridon Sarantopoulos will be in charge of the Steigenberger Grandhotel Petersberg near Bonn. An experienced hotel manager, his most recent position was as Director of the Grandhotel Steigenberger Frankfurter Hof in Frankfurt.
For three years Spiridon Sarantopoulos was in charge of the Steigenberger Frankfurter Hof, the flagship hotel of the Steigenberger Hotel Group. During his time there, this highly dedicated hotel manager repositioned the Grandhotel in the market, steered it successfully through the economic crisis and increased its profitability. Sarantopoulos inspired his team to achieve record levels of performance. One example of this can be seen in the areas of food and drink: the Gourmet Restaurant Français was awarded a Michelin star, the Cigarrum was named "Cigar Lounge of the Year 2010" and the hotel successfully established its own, in-house catering company, Catering Select. In addition to his work at the Steigenberger Frankfurter Hof, in January 2010 Sarantopoulos also took on the Chairmanship of the Rhein Main ERFA-Group; an association of twenty luxury and five-star corporate hotels in Frankfurt and the surrounding area.
Now the experience of the Munich-born hotelier is required in the traditional Grandhotel on the Petersberg. The task in hand is to return this exceptional hotel to the top of the hotel trade in Germany. "With his many years of expertise as a hotel manager, Spiridon Sarantopoulos is just the right man for this job", said Arco Buijs, CEO of Steigenberger Hotels AG.
Before Spiridon Sarantopoulos came to Steigenberger, he spent much of his professional career in the French hotel chain, Accor. His work there included ten years managing hotels of the Mercure and Sofitel brands, before his move to the Deluxe Hotel Sofitel Cologne Mondial, by the cathedral in Cologne.
Since 2009 the hotel company Steigenberger Hotels AG has been under the ownership of the Egyptian tourism entrepreneur Hamed El Chiaty, founder and owner of the Travco Group International. Travco Group is the largest tourism company in Egypt and a leading player in the Middle East. The Travco Group includes 50 hotels under the brand names Jaz, Iberotel and Sol y Mar, 22 Nile cruise ships under the brand names Travcotels and Iberotel as well as a complete range of tourism services.
