W Hotels Continues to Support Emerging Designers through Its Fashion Next Program, Remains First and Only Hospitality Brand to Show a Globally Exclusive Collection during the New York Collections, and Celebrates Fashion at Its New York City Hotels All Month Long
W Hotels Worldwide last evening celebrated what’s new and next in fashion with an event at W New York – Times Square to celebrate the W Hotels Fall 2011 Fashion Next designers: Frank Tell, Mandy Coon, Mara Hoffman, Tess Giberson and Michael Angel. The intimate gathering was hosted by W Hotels Global Fashion Director Amanda Ross, who curated these five designers as part of Fashion Next, the W brand’s fashion program that fosters and supports emerging designers during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and beyond. As part of Fashion Next, a first in the hospitality industry, W Hotels will host the designers’ official presentations in the Box venue at Lincoln Center and will then continue to showcase these rising talents at W Hotels around the world, providing a global stage for them throughout the year. Fashion Next designers will have the opportunity to travel to W Hotels for exclusive trunk shows, create limited-edition pieces for W Hotels Global Glam fashion and accessories collection, and collaborate with the W brand on other fashion and design projects. W Hotels, this season, is also celebrating 15 seasons as a supporter of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
“As a design-led, contemporary lifestyle brand, W Hotels has embraced fashion as an intrinsic extension and ever-changing expression of design,” said Eva Ziegler, Global Brand Leader, W Hotels Worldwide and Le Méridien. “As we continue to transform into a global powerhouse, W has the opportunity to showcase its leadership in design through global programs such as Fashion Next and our exclusive W Hotels Global Glam collection. These W Hotels initiatives give rising design stars access to a fashion savvy global audience from South Beach to Hollywood, London to Taipei, Mexico City to St Petersburg, Barcelona to Vieques Island and beyond.”
Global Glam Fall 2011 Presentation at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week
On February 10th, W Hotels will debut its newest Global Glam collection with a formal presentation in the Box venue at Lincoln Center. Curated by Amanda Ross, Global Glam is a fashionable interpretation of W Hotels’ continued global growth, with exclusive fashion and accessory pieces inspired by the unique design personalities of W Hotels around the world. This season, 15 designers were chosen to bring to life three W Hotels: W Taipei (opening February 14, 2011), W Austin (opened Dec 2010), and W Mexico City (undergoing renovation). The designers selected for the Fall collection, include Fashion Next designer Mara Hoffman, Clare Vivier, Eugenia Kim, Twinkle by Wenlan, Deepa Gurnani, Paola Hernandez, Noir, I-Luck, Sibilia, Yarnz, Shaesby, Contego Eyewear, Myne, Catherine Nicole, and Posse.
This season’s presentation will feature models on three vignettes, which have been designed as artistic, abstract interpretations of each hotel’s design personality. W Austin’s “Remix and Amplify” design theme will be brought to life through moving “sound bars” in bright magenta and orange LED lighting, while W Taipei’s “Nature Electrified” design concept will feature metal leaves and branches drenched in dramatic green and magenta lighting. The final vignette, inspired by W Mexico City’s “Masquerade” design, will be interpreted through magenta and blue illuminated rods made to resemble a criss-cross fabric pattern. There will be oversized screens suspended from the ceiling in the center of the room displaying cutting edge video interpretations of the new collection.
W Hotels’ Global Music Director Michaelangelo L’Acqua will produce the soundtrack for the Global Glam presentation, and London-born Charlotte Voisey, the mixologist of W Austin, will create signature cocktails inspired by each destination. Following the presentation, W Hotels will celebrate its latest collection in the Box venue at Lincoln Center, featuring a special live performance by French group YELLE DJs. The Fall 2011 Global Glam collection will be available in August 2011 exclusively at W Hotels The Store locations around the world and online at www.whotelsthestore.com.
