To see great masterpieces, one must visit the great museums: New York's Metropolitan, Paris' Louvre, St. Petersburg's Hermitage, Washington DC's Four Seasons Hotel... Wait a second; one of these things is not quite like the others.
Believing the only five-diamond, five-star hotel in the Capital region should have a similarly prestigious art collection; Four Seasons recently installed a new, 1,650-piece collection throughout the Pennsylvania Avenue landmark. Each work of art was selected to intrigue and inspire guests - and intrigue they do. In fact, the list of artists "in residence" reads like a boldfaced celebrity-spotting column.
Take the redesigned lobby, where an oversized series by English artist Roni Stretch evokes five faces of different ethnicities, a nod to the Hotel's international clientele. Helen Frankenthaler's vibrant "Bilbao" calls out to guests from behind the reception desk. And that master of artistic multitasking, Andy Warhol, is represented outside the business center with a rare 1986 screen print, "Indian Head Nickel," which was created just a year before his death.
From the restaurants to the hallways, you'll find art wherever you wander - without the admission price. To get to the art of the matter, take a tour of Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC's gallery today.
