On 17 June, André Gerondeau, Executive Vice President Hotels at Sol Meliá, accompanied Michael Häupl, Mayor of Vienna, in a ceremony to lay the first stone of what will become the tallest building in Austria, the DC Tower, designed by the prestigious French architect Dominique Perrault, and the future home to the Hotel ME Vienna, the most cosmopolitan and sophisticated of the hotel brands operated by Sol Meliá.

Representing the hotel company, Gerondeau declared it “an honour to take part in this project to create a new point of reference in the city of Vienna and a magnificent attraction for visitors to the city”. During the ceremony, the Executive Vice President Hotels at Sol Meliá helped lay the first stone with Willibald Cernko (Bank of Austria), Norbert Scheed (Director of the District of Donaustadt), Rudolf Schicker (Vienna Councillor for City Planning), Thomas Jakoubek (WED), Dominique Perrault (architect), Philippe Carré (French Ambassador to Austria) and the host, the Mayor Michael Häupl.

The new ME Vienna, the fifth ME by Meliá hotel and the first hotel to be operated by Sol Meliá in Austria, will provide 255 rooms on the first 15 floors of the building with spectacular panoramic views over the River Danube. The hotel will also provide magnificent dining experiences for guests and fantastic facilities for meetings and events thanks to its modern facilities and equipment.
