Doubletree recognized its properties for outstanding efforts in 2005 as part of the brand's Hotel Performance Awards Program during the Doubletree General Managers Conference in Roanoke, Va. Nineteen awards in various categories were presented to hotels chosen from the brand's 160 hotels across North America. Each hotel award winner received individual recognition during a specially planned celebratory reception at the conference in early March.

"Whether it is surprising a guest with a simple, helpful gesture or creating a wide-reaching program that brings together members of our community with team members at our hotels, we are truly proud of the multitude of resources and talents our Doubletree hotel team members provide each and every day," said Dave Horton, senior vice president -- brand management for Doubletree. "We are proud to present the Doubletree Hotel Performance Awards Program to acknowledge those hotels and individuals that have embraced a daily commitment to deliver an outstanding hotel experience as well as make a difference in the lives of others."

Finalists for the Connie Awards and Doubletree Pride Awards were determined by two key components of the Doubletree Balanced Scorecard rating system: a Brand Consistency Index (a measurement of Physical Condition, Cleanliness, and compliance with Brand Standards) and Guest Loyalty Scores (a combination of three scores from the Doubletree Satisfaction and Loyalty Tracking Report).

DOUBLETREE CRYSTAL COOKIE AWARDS

Doubletree Crystal Cookie Awards celebrate those hotels that demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to embracing the brand's CARE culture and share that commitment with their local community, their guests and their fellow team members.

2005 Community CARE Award -- Doubletree Hotel Bay City, Michigan

In March 2005, Mary Martinez - a single mother of 10 and employee at the Doubletree Hotel Bay City - was running out of options on where to live, after her house had been condemned for quality issues. That's when Wendy Row, Martinez's boss took over.

Row rallied the employees of her hotel and they truly celebrated the power of CARE. Team members spent countless hours tearing down and putting up drywall, installing new bathroom and kitchen fixtures, building new front steps on the house and so much more. The hotel team also rallied outside contractors and home improvement businesses in the community to assist and donate both time and product to make the repairs necessary to bring her home.

The end result - Martinez was able to make the repairs necessary to return to her home with her family.

2005 Community CARE Award -- Doubletree Hotel New Orleans, Louisiana

In August 2005, one of the most devastating hurricanes in U.S. history slammed into the Louisiana Gulf Coast. Under the leadership of general manager Pat Shimon, nearly 50 employees at the Doubletree Hotel New Orleans courageously endured days and weeks of a limited support infrastructure of power, water, food and communications. The team ensured that hotel guests who stayed through Hurricane Katrina were provided with the best of comfort and care, until suitable transportation was arranged for them to leave the city.

More than 80% of the hotel's employee's suffered significant damage to their own homes. As recovery efforts continue for themselves and their neighborhoods months later, the hotel team at the Doubletree Hotel New Orleans continues to provide an unparalleled level of service to thousands of volunteers and administrators from relief organizations around the world who stay at the hotel.

Teaching Kids to CARE® Spring Initiative Award - Doubletree Hotel Crystal City/National Airport, Virginia

Doubletree has enjoyed a successful relationship with the National Arbor Day Foundation® during the past two years. As part of the brand's educational initiative with adopted schools and youth organizations across the country, the Doubletree Teaching Kids to CARE program has planted 25,000 new trees to help re-green America and save our earth and its vital resources.

When it came to the brand's tree-planting adventure last Spring, there was one hotel that really took Teaching Kids to CARE to a whole new level. Delia Ramis and Lorna Rivera at the Doubletree Hotel Crystal City/National Airport decided to adopt students at Kendall Demonstration Elementary School at the National Deaf Education Center in Arlington, Virginia

Ramis and Rivera felt that the tree-planting endeavors were so interactive that the students at Kendall Elementary could benefit from and enjoy such an incredible lesson. They worked with educators at the school to develop their own specially designed lesson plan for the students and even learned sign language to communicate with the kids. The end result was an inspirational lesson for both adults and kids alike that they would not soon forget.

Teaching Kids to CARE Fall Initiative Award -- Doubletree Metropolitan Hotel, New York City

Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma caused devastating effects to several communities throughout the Southeast United States during the Fall of 2005. Doubletree hotels rose to the occasion to teach thousands of children of America once again about the power of community service by holding Community Cookie Fundraisers with their adopted schools and youth organizations to benefit the American Red Cross® Disaster Relief Fund.

The Doubletree Metropolitan Hotel decided to rise to the occasion by holding a "Doubletree Double Hurricane Fundraiser" with two schools in the New York Metropolitan Area which led to a $6,000 donation to the American Red Cross.

Conference Backgrounder

Themed "Heroes of the Brand Promise," the Doubletree Hotels General Managers Conference offered opportunities for general managers and corporate team members to learn, network and build relationships through brand-specific meetings, interactive workshops, guest speakers and award presentations.
