Renaissance New York Hotel 57 is the newest gem in the Renaissance brand's global collection of 140 properties. The highly distinctive Hotel 57 is nearing completion of a $40 million makeover and is the second Renaissance in Manhattan. The property is located at 57th Street & Lexington Avenue.
"Hotel 57 truly represents the innovation, creativity, originality and expression that define what the Renaissance experience is all about," said Tina Edmundson, senior vice president, lifestyle brands and Renaissance operations. "Each of our hotels inspires and provokes the guests' sense of discovery -- with its rich history, unusual architecture, interesting furnishings and fabulous restaurant following -- no stay at Hotel 57 ever feels routine."
Jordan Mozer's couture-style, one-of-a kind designs for the main lobby, restaurant and club lounge are reflected in a unique "fireplace" or central hearth, made of blown glass. An inlaid apple blossom in the floor and on surfaces throughout the public area serves as an inviting visual leitmotif, carrying guests up the glass-enclosed spiral staircase to the lounge and Opia restaurant.
Guests checking into Renaissance New York Hotel 57 will discover 200 completely redesigned guest rooms, including junior suites, full one-bedroom suites and two sky loft rooms on the top floor with hardwood floors and wraparound terraces. The hotel presents an intimate feel with an ultra-modern design. Each room's decor is clean and uncluttered with warm birch paneling, pinpoint bedside reading lamps, flat screen HD TVs, and iPod docking stations. Plush beds are fitted with 340-thread count Egyptian cotton sheets and the well-appointed bathrooms feature marble tile and sinks.
The hotel is also home to famed French bistro Opia which has a strong following amongst New Yorkers and out-of-town guests and is also the setting for special viewings of major international sporting events. Opia is owned and managed by partners Frederick Lesort and Antoine Bleck.
Hotel 57 originally opened in 1923 as the Allerton Hotel for Women. Designed by architect Arthur Loomis Harmon, best known for his work on the Empire State Building in 1931 with the architectural firm Shreve Lamb and Harmon, the hotel is 17 stories high and Romanesque in appearance. In the latter part of the 20th century the property no longer served as a women's residence and became one of the New York's popular hotels. A unique feature of the property is the corner carriage house, now a retail store. The upper floors of the carriage house include a fitness center and two suites with exposed brick walls.
Hotel 57 is the second Renaissance designed by Jordan Mozer. In early 2008, the brand completed an equally dramatic transformation of its hotel on Times Square, orchestrated by Mozer.
Conveniently located just minutes from Central Park, Carnegie Hall, world-renowned museums and some of New York's finest dining and shopping, Renaissance New York Hotel 57 offers a great way to discover one of the world's greatest cities.
