Hilton Hotels Corporation (HHC) has today announced the arrival of its 15th hotel in Italy following the opening of the Excelsior Hilton Palermo, Sicily. Operated by Acqua Marcia Turismo Spa under a franchise agreement with Hilton, the property becomes the company’s third to open on the island, joining Hilton Villa Igiea Palermo and Hilton Portorosa.
Welcoming today’s announcement, Simon Vincent, President of Hilton Hotels Europe, said: “As our 15th Italian property, this fantastic property marks the latest milestone in our strategy to grow the Hilton Family of Hotels in the country. We are delighted to be opening such a historic hotel right in the heart of Palermo and believe that with strength of the Hilton brand, combined with the global reach of our powerful sales, marketing and distribution networks, Excelsior Hilton Palermo will continue to build its reputation as one of the city’s leading hotels.”
He added: “Sicily is one of Europe’s most popular island destinations, offering a distinctive blend of culture and architecture that is unique to this part of Italy. With three hotels now open on the island, and a fourth – Des Palmes Hilton Palermo - set to open by the end of this year, we are looking forward to welcoming guests to Sicily to experience Hilton’s famous brand of hospitality.”
“As more travellers seek out this stunning part of Italy, we are excited to expand our portfolio in the region,” said Jeff Diskin, senior vice president – brand management, Hilton Hotels & Resorts. “By offering first-class amenities and personalized service on a global scale, the Hilton brand promises guests a comfortable and transformative travel experience, no matter where their journey might take them.”
Restored from a 19th Century Palazzo and formerly known as the Excelsior Palace Hotel, the Excelsior Hilton Palermo has become one of the city’s oldest and most renowned properties. Having recently undergone a significant renovation programme, the hotel offers 119 well appointed guestrooms, including four spacious suites, each complete with marble bathrooms and private balconies. Rooms have been designed to combine classic features and art nouveau charm with the very latest in-room technology and high speed internet access. As part of the refurbishment project, the hotel has retained its original Liberty-style façade and all public areas, halls and lounges have also been fully restored to create a refined and elegant retreat in the heart of the Sicilian capital.
Excelsior Hilton Palermo’s gourmet Exè restaurant provides a unique setting for guests to enjoy a range of authentic Sicilian and international dishes, whilst the bar offers an extensive selection of vintage local wines and refreshing drinks.
The hotel’s business centre offers 24 hour business support facilities as well as two fully equipped meeting rooms, each catering for up to 90 guests - making the Excelsior Hilton Palermo an ideal choice for those travelling on business.
For guests looking to keep fit during their stay a complimentary Hilton by Precor gym facility provides state-of-the-art fitness equipment and work out areas.
Located on Mordini Square in Palermo’s historic city centre, Excelsior Hilton Palermo is flanked by some of the city’s most significant buildings and attractions, including Villa Garibaldi, Villa Trabia and Giovan Battista Filippo’s famous ‘English Gardens’. The property is ideally located only a short walk from Palermo’s main theatre and shopping districts, not to mention many of the city’s top tourist attractions, including Palermo Cathedral, the Norman Palace and Teatro Massimo opera house. Palermo’s old port is only a 15 minute walk away.
In Italy HHC now operates a total of 15 Hilton Family of Hotels across four different brands, including Waldorf Astoria Collection, Hilton, Doubletree by Hilton and Hilton Garden Inn. A further six properties are expected to open by 2010 in destinations including Siracusa, Bari, Lecce, Palermo and Treviso. Hilton has named Italy as one of its key development regions, joining Russia, the UK & Ireland, Iberia, Germany, Turkey and Poland as core strategic areas for the introduction of the Hilton Family of hotels in Europe.
