Golf Digest magazine conducted its annual Readers’ Choice survey, and the results are in. World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Florida, fared exceptionally well as the resort was named the 15th best Resort Course in the nation in the 2009 list of “The Top 50 Resort Courses,” as selected by the magazine’s readers.

The ranking was based on such categories as the quality of the courses, condition of the courses, hotel accommodations, food/dining, off course activities/amenities, service, golf practice facilities, accessibility, clubhouse/locker room, speed of play, reputation/prestige, golf pro shop, and overall value.

World Golf Village was joined in the Top 15 by such other golf resorts as Kiawah Island Golf Resort, Pinehurst Resort, Coeur D’Alene Resort, Brandon Dunes Golf Resort, The Greenbrier, and The Broadmoor. Its ranking as number 15 placed it above such resorts as TPC Sawgrass, The Lodge at Pebble Beach, Bay Harbor Golf Club, Mauna Lani Resort, Grand Cypress Golf Club, Doral Golf Resort & Spa, The Boulders, and PGA National Resort & Spa.

“We’re very proud of this prestigious ranking,” said Mark Schwantner, general manager of The Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village, the official resort of World Golf Village and the World Golf Hall of Fame. “It shows that World Golf Village offers exceptional golf, with outstanding accommodations, first-class service, wonderful dining, and great off-course offerings too.”

This award follows several other awards recently captured by the 301-room Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village, which includes Meetings & Conventions magazine’s “Gold Tee Award,” ConventionSouth magazine’s “Readers’ Choice Award,” Association Meetings magazine’s “Inner Circle Award,” and Meetings & Conventions magazine’s “Gold Key Award.”

Not resting on its laurels, The Renaissance Resort just completed an impressive $10 million property-wide renovation. The project included the complete remodeling of all 301 guest rooms and suites, dramatic changes to the resort’s lobby atrium, the remodeling and opening of a new restaurant and bar, new carpeting and wallcoverings for all guest room corridors, an expanded fitness center with new state-of-the art equipment, new lighting throughout the public spaces, new carpeting in the meeting space, and even the addition of a new “signature scent.”

The Renaissance Resort is ideally situated in the heart of the beautifully landscaped 6,300-acre World Golf Village. In addition to featuring exceptional golf on two of the country’s finest courses – King & Bear and Slammer & Squire -- The Renaissance Resort has a wealth of additional recreational offerings. These include the 24-hour health club and sauna, an indoor professional golf simulator, large pool, hot tub, tennis courts, a newly-enhanced billiard room, 24-hour business center, jogging trails, and full-service concierge.

Guests also have privileges at the private oceanfront Serenata Beach Club, and have access to the PGA TOUR Golf Academy, the PGA TOUR Spa Laterra, an 18-hole championship putting course, and an Island Challenge Hole.

In addition to its convenient location next to the impressive World Golf Hall of Fame, the resort also is an easy walk to the Walk of Champions (which features bricks commemorating golf’s greatest players), an IMAX® Theater, and a boutique avenue with an assortment of specialty shops and restaurants.

The 10-story Renaissance Resort offers spectacular views overlooking the Village’s picturesque lake and golf courses, and features a towering open atrium lobby complete with running streams, and a cascading waterfall.

Together with the adjoining St. Johns County Convention Center and the adjacent World Golf Hall of Fame, the resort is the largest combination hotel and conference center between Atlanta and Orlando, with 86,000 square feet of meeting and event space.

Visiting the resort also provides the opportunity to explore beautiful St. Augustine, the nation’s oldest city. Founded in 1565, the area is rich with Spanish architecture, with charming cobblestone streets and such historical sites as the Castillo de San Marcos fort, The Fountain of Youth, and the nation’s Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse.
