One of Five Hotels in United States to Receive Prestigious Award for 25 years or more
AAA announced that The Fairmont Olympic Hotel received its 25th consecutive AAA Five Diamond award for 2009, recognizing the hotel for the best in luxurious service, décor and amenities. Celebrating a quarter-century of Five Diamond excellence, The Fairmont Olympic is the only hotel in the four-state Pacific Northwest to receive this prestigious award and is one of five elite hotels in the United States to make the AAA Five Diamond list for 25 or more consecutive years. The Georgian, the hotel’s fine-dining restaurant, has achieved Four Diamond status for the 20th consecutive year. No other Four Diamond restaurant in Washington has been awarded this status for that long.
Representing the upper echelon of the hospitality industry, AAA Five Diamond Award winners make up just 0.28 percent of the 58,000 Diamond Rated lodgings and restaurants throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. The Fairmont Mayakoba and The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess also achieved Five Diamond status in 2009.
“What sets The Fairmont Olympic Hotel from other hotels in Seattle and in some cases across the United States,” says General Manager Dennis Clark, “are its people and the history behind this iconic building.”
“Achieving the highest industry award for 25 consecutive years is a testament to The Fairmont Olympic Hotel’s unwavering excellent customer service, exquisite historic surroundings and the steadfast dedication by all staff members,” said Charlie Liekweg, AAA Washington’s President & CEO. “The AAA Five Diamond Award denotes the ultimate in luxury and sophistication. Continuing to exceed clients’ expectations is what makes The Olympic the Northwest’s premier luxury hotel.”
The 450-room hotel, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary in 2009, has the best guest-to-staff ratio in the city, with 25 colleagues who have 25 years or more of service at the hotel. There are over 150 colleagues who have 10 or more years of service at the Olympic. Acts of hospitality occur daily from John Roche, in-room dining manager, Stanley Hua, silver polisher, Danny Shafer, bellman, Thomas Bakker, banquet house attendant, Rolando Oliva, in-room dining server and Sandra Kraft, Shuckers supervisor, who are celebrating their 25th anniversary with the hotel in 2009.
“Through the years, Fairmont has continued to invest in the building, but we have also focused on providing personalized care to our guests. Our colleagues can provide that because of their longevity with the hotel,” said Clark. “Our guests continue to share comments with me about how at home they feel during their stay, or how we provide an environment where people are naturally gracious and the ambiance classic.”
To be considered for AAA rating and approval, restaurants and lodgings must undergo a thorough, unannounced annual inspection by one of AAA’s 65 full-time, trained, professional evaluators. Five Diamond establishments receive more extensive inspections and must meet AAA’s highest rating standards, reflecting the ultimate in luxury and sophistication, and are subject to final review by a special Five Diamond committee.
