Six Senses Resorts & Spas continues to receive leading environmental honors in the travel industry, most recently being recognized by Condé Nast Traveler in the 2008 World Savers Awards. Six Senses was one of 38 companies selected from 142 applications worldwide as a leader in social responsibility.
The Six Senses group was awarded an honory mention in the health category, whilst Evason Phuket & Six Senses Spa in Thailand received an honorable mention in the preservation category. The environmentally conscious PuntaCana Resort & Club in the Dominican Republic – host of the Americas first Six Senses Spa, was also nominated as a finalist.
A panel of 17 judges rated how applicants exercise social responsibility in five key areas: poverty alleviation, cultural and/or environmental preservation, education, wildlife conservation, and health. Finalists will be recognised at the World Savers Awards ceremony on September 23rd at the 2nd Annual Condé Nast Traveler World Savers Congress in New York City.
"These finalists are prime examples of how the world‘s hotels, airlines, cruise lines and tour operators can inspire their peers to improve our world," said Deputy Editor for Special Projects Dorinda Elliott. "The efforts by these World Savers, from building schools and furnishing much-needed medical supplies to restocking wildlife reserves and dispensing mirco-loans, are models for the entire travel industry.“
"Six Senses are honored to be recognized by Condé Nast Traveler for our social and environmental efforts. The awards are testimony to Six Senses core purpose, which is: To create innovative and enriching experiences in a sustainable environment,” said Juergen E. Seidel, Social & Environmental Conscience, Six Senses Resorts & Spas.
