- Progress continues as construction moves to the next phase for the 60-
storey Toronto landmark -
Construction is well under way for Toronto's
$500-million metropolitan icon, located at 325 Bay Street, in the heart of the
city's financial and business district. With excavation and drilling nearing
an end, the developers and construction team begin preparing for the next
chapter of expansion.
"As each month goes by, we become more and more excited about the
development and progress of this architectural jewel," says Alex Shnaider,
Chairman of Talon International Development Inc., the building's developer.
"We see each phase of development as a milestone, and are thrilled with the
progress to date."
The five-star, 60-storey, Trump International Hotel & Tower ceremonially
broke ground on October 12, 2007, and official construction began November 12,
2007.
"With a project of this size and scope and in this particular location -
one of the busiest intersections in Toronto - it's only reasonable to
anticipate some obstacles and delays during the construction period," said Val
Levitan, President and CEO of Talon. "Thankfully, however, we've been able to
stay the course and are now looking forward to beginning the next stage."
As Toronto remains a hot spot during a period of increased activity in
the construction sector, access to qualified and expert trades people
continues to be a challenge for the industry as a whole.
"As each phase of the project moves ahead, it is imperative that we
continually hire top-notch, world-class specialists, and we believe that we
truly have the best team in place," says Levitan.
In terms of the next visible signs of construction, cranes will be raised
on the site during the weekend of May 31st, and concrete is scheduled to be
poured for the footings of the building shortly thereafter.
The footings of this building will be nine feet deep, as opposed to the
standard size that typically measure between two to three feet.
"I have never seen such unusually deep footings, and this is testament to
the height and slenderness of the building, which will truly be impressive,"
said Lyndon Devaney, Principal Architect with Zeidler Partnership Architects.
Beginning mid-May, passersby on Bay and Adelaide will also see the "Trump
International Hotel & Tower, Toronto" corporate signage, officially signaling
that construction is well under way.
