The time has come: the first Mövenpick Hotel in Greece is due to open in the next few days. Following major renovation and extension over the last two years, the upscale Mövenpick Resort & Thalasso Crete is now ready to welcome its first guests and to offer them an exquisite combination of typical Greek hospitality and the traditional Swiss passion for efficiency, reliability, punctuality and precision.
“We are very pleased with the first Mövenpick Hotel in Greece”, says Jean Gabriel Pérès, President & CEO Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts. “The Mövenpick Resort & Thalasso Crete is an important addition to our portfolio of outstanding holiday resorts. Complementing such resorts as Djerba, Beirut und Bodrum, it is precisely tailored to the needs of our guests and can be seen as yet another highlight in the Mediterranean region.”
Situated on the north shore of Crete right on the long Amoudara Beach with its beautiful fine sand, the new Mövenpick Resort & Thalasso Crete is six kilometres west of Heraklion and 12 km away from the international airport. It is thus an ideal base to explore the island’s numerous tourist attractions. For example, the famous archaeological site of Knossos is only a twenty-minute drive away from the hotel.
All of the 285 spacious and modern rooms and suites offer sea view and all the amenities of an upscale holiday resort. The new Deluxe Rooms and Suites whose luxurious features include, among other things, exclusive pools deserve special mention.
The hotel offers a wide range of culinary delights: in the main restaurant “Estia”, guests can enjoy the popular Mövenpick breakfast buffet and, in the evening, the varied international buffets with live cooking stations. While the “Peitho – Fine Dining” specialises in exquisite Mediterranean delicacies and grill specialities, the “Taverna”, an open-air restaurant situated directly on the sea, offers salad buffets, light meals, pizza and typical Greek dishes. In addition, refreshing drinks and snacks are available in the Lobby Lounge and Pool Bar.
“Aegeo Spa Center”, the resort’s 4,500 sqm large seawater spa complex provides a wide range of classic wellness services including Thalasso and beauty therapy. Guests are invited to relax in various seawater baths as well as the sauna, sanarium, solarium, whirlpools and steam baths.
A fitness centre, two floodlight tennis courts, table tennis, squash, billiard and beach volleyball as well as a large variety of water sports are available for those who love physical exercise and sports. Moreover, the Crete Golf Club (18 holes) is only a 25-minute drive away from the resort. In the Kids Club which has its own playground, a professional child care team looks after the needs of the hotel’s youngest guests. A newsstand as well as a mini market provides shopping opportunities within the resort.
Equipped with five meeting rooms, the modern conference centre accommodates up to 800 persons and thus provides an ideal venue for those travelling on business. With its picturesque chapel, the Mövenpick Resort & Thalasso Crete is also an excellent choice for weddings and baptisms.
“We are confident that this upscale hotel will be hugely popular in our main European markets”, says Brigitte Rohling, General Manager of Mövenpick Resort & Thalasso Crete. “Families, honeymooners, singles and business travellers alike will fell at home here.”
