FORTUNE magazine has recognized Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE:MAR) as the most admired company in the industry of hotels, resorts and casinos, for the ninth consecutive year. Marriott was the highest ranked company across all industries in the greater Washington, D.C. area, which includes the District of Columbia as well as suburban Maryland and Virginia.
The “Most Admired” list is made up of companies that are ranked by executives, directors, and analysts in their own industry on eight criteria, including: innovation, people management, use of corporate assets, social responsibility, quality of management, financial soundness, long-term investment, and products/services quality.
“Marriott’s vision is to be the number one lodging company in the world,” said J.W. Marriott, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer, Marriott International, Inc. “We are well positioned for continued success with our business model of managing and franchising hotels rather than owning them, our broad portfolio of 19 lodging brands, our distribution across nearly 70 countries, and above all our outstanding associates and culture.”
The list can be viewed in FORTUNE’s March 17th issue or online at www.fortune.com.
Marriott was also recently ranked by FORTUNE as one of the “100 Best Companies to Work For.” Additionally, Marriott has been recognized by:
BusinessWeek - Best Places to Launch a Career
Working Mother - 100 Best Companies for Working Mothers
Black Enterprise - Top 40 Companies for Diversity (Black Enterprise)
Hispanic Business - Diversity Elite
Condé Nast Traveler – World Savers Award for Outstanding Community Engagement and Social Responsibility Programs
