Six Senses Wins Prestigious Social and Environment Award (Bali)

Six Senses Resorts & Spas received the “Best-of-show” Grand Award 2007 for its Social and Environment Conscience programme by PATA (Pacific Asia Travel Association) at the annual Travel Mart 2007. Other Grand Award winners at the Bali event were Macau Government Tourist Office for Heritage, Ministry of Tourism – Government of India (Incredible India) Marketing, and Sri Lanka for Education and Training.

Open to both PATA and non-PATA members, this year’s awards attracted a record total of 339 entries from 132 travel and tourism organisations. In addition to the four Grand Awards, there were 24 Gold Awards, one of which was won by Soneva Fushi – by Six Senses, under the category of Environmental Education Programme: Soneva Nature Trip.

In announcing the Social and Environment award, PATA President and CEO, Peter de Jong said: Six Senses Resorts & Spas Social and Environment Conscience programme aims to enhance the social and environmental performance of Six Senses Resorts & Spas’ managed properties. The company hired a full time manager called “Social and Environment Conscience" to oversee the programme which includes environmental awareness and management, corporate partnerships and a “Social and Environmental Responsibility Fund".

Accepting the award for Six Senses was Six Senses Resorts & Spas Group Permaculturalist, Mr Louis Thompson. In a brief speech of appreciation, Thompson said, “Six Senses has a strong history and commitment to environmental and social responsibility in every Soneva, Six Senses Hideaway, Six Senses Latitude and Evason: plus Six Senses Spa and Six Senses Destination Spa. Founders Sonu and Eva Shivdasani, along with each host, support our vision, which is: To create innovative and enriching experiences in a sustainable environment”.

Thompson also added, “It is a great honour to be recognized for our Social and Environment Conscience programme by PATA, and to receive this award and share it with the hosts of all our properties. There are a range of practical ways the tourism industry can confront climate change, particularly in the hospitality sector, by reducing greenhouse emissions, and at the same time reducing operating costs, differentiating products and boosting productivity and staff morale.
