The Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town will open its new R18 million (approx. £1.29 million) Librisa Spa on 22nd December 2007, offering a holistic spa experience unlike any other in South Africa. Natural and organic themes will run throughout, combining local and international products – primarily Africology and Victorian Garden – with blends of healing herbs, botanical extracts and marine essences.
Signature treatments will include The Green Clay Marula and Wild Mint Wrap, which cleanses and purifies the skin using botanical extracts such as blue rosemary and rosehip. Another signature treatment will be ‘The Vine Secret Vintage Experience’, where the powerful anti ageing effects of grapes are used in a body and facial treatment resulting in softer and more youthful skin – the perfect treat after a day of wine tasting in Stellenbosch or Constancia!
Africology is an anti-aging skin care system that uses 100% natural plant extracts. Both Africology and The Victorian Garden are South African companies whose products have been created to provide a complete African spa experience.
In order to house the luxurious spa, The Mount Nelson Hotel has acquired six late Victorian buildings situated in Faure Street, on the edge of its existing property. These buildings are sites of outstanding local architecture, aesthetic and historical value, which have been sensitively renovated and adapted. The Librisa Spa has been created in such a manner that whilst all new well-being philosophies shall be embraced, the past shall never be forgotten.
The 6,100 square-foot development has been designed to flood reception and relaxation areas with ample natural light, with gentle tones of whites and creams and a soothing setting of potted flowering annuals, topiary and palms. Located adjacent to the main swimming pool, the spa will have eight treatment rooms, four of which will be equipped for dual treatments for partners, plus a manicure and pedicure room.
Stepping further into the spa, there will be a relaxation area replicating a garden conservatory where guests can enjoy herbal teas whilst being soothed by trickling water and colourful blooms. A staircase leads to a second floor of treatment rooms, which will offer stunning views of Table Mountain and the hotel’s landscaped gardens.
Librisa Spa guests will be invited to enjoy a sauna or steam bath as well as use of hot and cold plunge pools. Treatments will range from massage therapy to wraps, purifying facials and finishing touches such as waxing, manicures and pedicures. There will also be special treatments for men, teens and children, such as a fizzy hot chocolate and fresh orange blossom wrap.
