The Company ranked fourth worldwide in its sector (Hotels, Resorts and Cruise Lines), putting it on the map as a sustainability leader in its field NH Hotel Group has emerged as one of the most sustainable companies in its sector, following its assessment for the first time by SAM, a sustainability investing rating specialist, which has ranked the Company fourth among its peers in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. This puts NH Hotel Group on the map as one of the sustainability leaders in the global hotel industry.
Every year SAM evaluates, with the aid of an extensive questionnaire, the companies pursuing the best practices in the sustainability arena, focusing primarily on three dimensions: economic, social and environmental. Each dimension is in turn sub-divided into 20 criteria and NH Hotel Group has been awarded the highest score (100th percentile) on two of them: tax strategy and environmental reporting. It also earned compelling scores on all the criteria related with people management, including talent attraction and retention, human capital development and the indices related with labour practices.
Ramón Aragonés, CEO of NH Hotel Group, said: “We are very proud to have voluntarily taken the step of submitting our firm for assessment by the prestigious ESG rating specialist, SAM, and to have ranked fourth among all our peers in the 2019 Annual Corporate Sustainability Assessment. Sustainability is a core value at NH Hotel Group and acts as a cross-cutting driver of value creation in our bid to build a lasting future. We remain committed to continuing to pursue innovation in order to develop fresh sustainability initiatives”.
He noted that the firm's fourth position is tantamount to recognition of the Company's commitment to sustainability and best corporate practices, framed by its business plan: “Thanks to this assessment we have also identified areas for improvement and a myriad of ways in which to reinforce our commitment and engage all of our stakeholders so that all of our actions have a positive effect along the economic, social and environmental dimensions”.
He added that these results are an endorsement of the effort NH Hotel Group has been making to position itself as a benchmark in sustainable hotel management. It now shares that ambition with Minor International, the Company's majority shareholder since the end of 2018, a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), which tracks the economic, social and environmental performance of leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide, for the last six years running.
