Commenting on the transaction, Christopher Cowdray, chief executive officer of Dorchester Collection, said: ‘Hotel Eden is an exciting addition to our portfolio as it is one of the world’s most majestic and iconic hotels in a truly superb setting. Its landmark status, heritage and individuality complement the style and locations of our other nine hotels in the UK, France, Switzerland, Italy and the US. A presence in Rome, one of the epicentres of classicism, additionally creates synergies with our hotel in Milan, Hotel Principe di Savoia. We are delighted to welcome Hotel Eden’s employees into the Dorchester Collection family.’

Originally built in 1834 and converted to a hotel in 1889, Hotel Eden is one of Rome’s most celebrated hotels and popular amongst royalty, heads of states and celebrities, as well as international travellers. It will undergo a careful restoration to enhance the heritage of the building and to reposition the hotel at the forefront of the luxury hotel market in keeping with Dorchester Collection’s portfolio. The timing and scale of this major restoration are currently being established.

Overlooking the seven hills of Rome in the Eternal City, Hotel Eden is ideally located between the Spanish Steps and Via Veneto. It is surrounded by green parks and yet close to the Vatican, St. Peter's Cathedral and Piazza Navona, whilst the Colosseum is only ten minutes away by taxi. The main shopping streets of Via Condotti, Via Borgognona and Via Frattina are conveniently located nearby.

The hotel’s restaurant, La Terrazza dell'Eden, the bar and Terrace Garden on the sixth floor have some of Rome’s most spectacular views spanning from St. Peter's Dome to the Vittoriano Monument and beyond, and is an observation point for the city. The restaurant was awarded a Michelin star in November 2012 under the helm of executive chef Fabio Ciervo. This Michelin star will complement those at Dorchester Collection’s other hotels, which include three stars at The Dorchester, three stars at Hotel Plaza Athénée and three stars at Le Meurice.

The advisors to Dorchester Group were Beacon Hospitality Partners, Dentons, Carnelutti, and PwC.
