A stunning new bar opens at Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong, providing an elegant environment with intimate seating and views of Victoria Harbour, where guests can enjoy some of France’s most revered wines and famed artisanal cheeses.
A stylish and discreet bar, adjacent to the acclaimed Caprice restaurant, Caprice Bar offers Hong Kong’s most exclusive destination for an aperitif, digestif, single glass of wine or Champagne, or an indulgent cheese experience or charcuterie plate. Caprice Bar is designed for both a brief encounter and a lingering evening with friends, always with relaxed but efficient service, open daily from 5:30 pm until 12:00 midnight.
DesignThe interior design is a continuation of Michelin-starred Caprice by the same team at Spin Design Studio and provides seating for couples, groups or individuals at the bar counter’s sparkling marble top. Sumptuous and rich, the design highlights beautiful carved wood paneling framing etched glass walls, luxurious velvet clad sofas, deep leather armchairs, wrought iron and marble tables, and ornate refrigerated counters displaying coveted wines. Caprice’s signature lit catwalk conjoins Caprice Bar and guides guests to meet an open fireplace, hidden behind which is a stunning hand-stitched Suzhou tapestry hanging more than six feet (1.8 metres) tall, as the backdrop to a further secluded drinking spot.
Food and BeverageCaprice Bar offers a selection of interesting and unusual wines by the glass or bottle, as well as long-standing favourites of wine aficionados from the great châteaux of France. The wine list at Caprice Bar is an extended version of the Wine Spectator awarded Caprice wine list while also presenting wines from unknown regions of France. Alongside, the bar serves a selection of liquors and traditional cocktails as well as Champagnes and liquor coffees.
With the accent firmly on France, a seasonal food menu displays the Comptoir Bar and the Cheese Bar, from which guests can choose a selection of savoury snacks or cheese respectively. Served on wooden boards and slate tiles, these delicious selections are rustic and filling. The Comptoir (translates as "counter" from French) menu is designed by Caprice Chef Vincent Thierry and changes regularly, offering items such as charcuterie, black truffle scrambled eggs, wild game terrine, Iberico ham, pâté en croute and duck leg Parmentier, with prices ranging from HKD 170.00 to HKD 480.00 per dish. Thierry also adds two light dessert options for the sweet-toothed guest at HKD 110.00 each.
The cheese menu offers a selection of artisanal unpasteurized cheeses, freshly flown from France on a weekly basis and always the best of the season. Guests may choose to have a plated selection of chčvres (goats’ cheeses), pâtes molles (soft cheeses) or "a bit of everything." Cheese plates range from HKD 250.00 to HKD 280.00 and can be combined with a wine pairing of three glasses at HKD 280.00 or four glasses at HKD 370.00.
Caprice cheese connoisseur (officially Director of Restaurants) Jeremy Evrard has developed a close relationship over 15 years with the many affineurs he met while at the Michelin-starred Le Cinq at Four Seasons Hotel George V Paris, and it is for this very reason he is able to claim the trophy for being the only venue in Asia to serve the famed, four-year-aged comté – adored by cheese lovers and rarely found due to the farm producing only 180 wheels a year. Habitually taking members of his team to experience with their own senses the farms Evrard grew up around, the Caprice Bar team presents a cheese plate with true French flare and aplomb, as the most authentic fromagerie experience in Hong Kong.
Reservations cannot be made and seats are available on a first come, first served basis – guests are welcome to call in advance to check availability on 3196 8860.
