Clearwater Beach’s most anticipated resort looks back on a successful first year

CLEARWATER BEACH, Fla. (FEBRUARY 1, 2011) – After nearly a decade of planning and while managing the challenges of the downturned economy and Gulf oil spill, the Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach Resort and Spa has much to celebrate today, the one-year anniversary of its February 1, 2010 grand opening. The Hyatt’s successful inaugural year as Clearwater’s newest, beachfront resort included higher than projected occupancy levels and sales goals. The resort additionally received numerous awards, including the prestigious AAA Four Diamond Award and the Three Green Keys Award by the Green Key Eco-rating Program.

The opening marked only the second time in a quarter-century that a new beach resort was built in Pinellas County as well as the first time that a waterfront Hyatt hotel was available on Florida’s west coast. In addition, the resort served as the centerpiece of the city’s new Beach Walk, a $30 million revitalization project that has brought a half-mile of world-class shopping, dining and entertainment to Clearwater Beach.

“We certainly felt the pressure to exceed what were already high expectations,” said General Manager Brian Kramer. “But with an experienced team, the Hyatt brand and the local community by our side, we raised the bar and helped propel the tourism sector by introducing a new level of luxury and service.”

Rather than celebrating the resort’s first-year success by hosting an elaborate party or gathering, resort executives decided to give back to the community that so generously supported the launch of this world-class hotel. Through a Hyatt Hotels corporate grant, the resort was able to contribute $15,000 to the Homeless Emergency Project (HEP), an organization committed to providing Pinellas County’s homeless and very low-income families with housing, food, clothing and support services to obtain self-sufficiency and an improved quality of life.

On Thursday, January 20, at HEP’s central campus, Brian Kramer, general manager of the Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach Resort and Spa, provided HEP President and CEO Barbara Green with the resort’s $15,000 check. The donation directly funded HEP’s Keep Encouraging Youth (KEY) to Succeed Children’s Program, providing academic enrichment to reinforce and complement school-based learning among local homeless and low-income children.

“When we were seeking a charitable partner, we were particularly drawn to HEP as it helps better the lives of local children,” said Kramer. “Hyatt’s spirit of community service allows the company and its hotels to make a positive impact on our future generations. We were honored to participate in that effort by supporting such a worthwhile cause and organization right here in Pinellas County.”

Located less than 20 miles from international airports in both Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties, Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach Resort and Spa provides sun seekers with quick and convenient access to West Coast Florida’s most breathtaking white-sand beaches. Set in an idyllic location between the turquoise waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the picturesque Intracoastal Waterway, the 250-all-suite resort offers one- and two-bedroom deluxe suites featuring Hyatt Grand Beds™, 42-inch flat-screen televisions, full kitchens and oversized private balconies, most with full Gulf views.

Guests can enjoy a sophisticated getaway full of world-class amenities. Twenty air-conditioned poolside cabanas complete with flat-screen televisions and wet bars highlight the eighth level pool and resort deck. Atop the 16th floor, an intimate lounge area and whirlpool serves as a quiet retreat. The state-of-the-art Sandava Spa and 24-hour Hyatt StayFit Gym allows guests to relax and rejuvenate, while Camp Hyatt offers fun-filled programs and activities for kids.

Plentiful dining options are offered: SHOR, an American seafood grill featuring a dramatic show kitchen; Swim, offering Pan-Latin fusion dishes poolside; and Skimmers, a coffee bar and grab-and-go station by day and lively lobby bar by night.
