Perched on the famed Crescent Drive, The Beverly Hills Hotel has been an enduring icon of Hollywood since its opening in 1912. This legendary establishment is not just a luxury hotel—it’s a cornerstone of Beverly Hills itself. In fact, the city of Beverly Hills was built around the hotel, making it the area's first and most prominent landmark. Over the past century, The Beverly Hills Hotel, fondly nicknamed the “Pink Palace,” has become a symbol of Los Angeles and a beacon of Hollywood glamour, attracting generations of celebrities, industry elites, and dreamers.

Where history meets glamour

The Beverly Hills Hotel stands as a living testament to a past era while remaining thoroughly modern. Spanning 12 acres of lush gardens and foliage—an unusual sight in urban Los Angeles—the property offers a secluded retreat within the city. The grounds are adorned with greenery and flowers, creating a serene atmosphere that feels miles away from the bustling streets of Beverly Hills.

The hotel’s design reflects its rich history. Many areas, including the stairwell leading to the Fountain Coffee Room, still feature the iconic Martinique wallpaper, originally designed in the 1940s by C.W. Stockwell. This lush green, palm-leaf motif has since been replicated worldwide, but at The Beverly Hills Hotel, it’s the real deal. Guests can enjoy the nostalgic charm of this wallpaper as they sip their morning coffee or enjoy a meal in this intimate, 19-seat diner.

The Bungalows: Hollywood legends come to life

One of the hotel’s most distinctive features is its 23 bungalows, scattered throughout the grounds to offer privacy and luxury. These bungalows, some with private pools, are more than just accommodations—they are pieces of Hollywood history.

Take, for example, Bungalow 22, the Frank Sinatra bungalow. Decorated in a sophisticated mix of greys and beiges, with pink and green accents, this bungalow exudes masculine elegance, complete with a grand piano that reflects Sinatra’s musical legacy. Staying here feels more like stepping into a luxurious private home than a hotel room with its kitchenette, living area, dressing room, and marble-covered bathroom.

Then there’s the Elizabeth Taylor-inspired bungalow, a favourite among guests. This lavish accommodation is a tribute to the actress's timeless charm and includes a private pool, allowing guests to enjoy the ultimate in relaxation and privacy. Two Presidential Bungalows also feature private pools, catering to those who seek the pinnacle of exclusivity and comfort.

A destination for dreamers and luminaries

From New York executives conducting business in Los Angeles to bucket-list travellers fulfilling lifelong dreams, The Beverly Hills Hotel attracts a diverse and distinguished clientele. Its reputation as the ultimate Hollywood destination is further solidified by its frequent appearances in films, television, and pop culture. Guests often mention that simply walking through its doors feels like stepping into a movie scene.

Over the decades, the hotel has been a preferred retreat for countless celebrities, including Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, and Howard Hughes. Its enduring popularity among Hollywood’s elite has only added to its mystique.

Dining that defines luxury

Food lovers are spoiled for choice at The Beverly Hills Hotel. Whether dining poolside, in the shade of pink-striped cabanas, or enjoying breakfast in the Fountain Coffee Room, every meal here is a memorable experience.
  • The Cabana Café serves breakfast and lunch alfresco by the hotel’s sparkling pool. The atmosphere is lively, with the chatter of guests mingling in the California sun.
  • The Fountain Coffee Room, with its retro charm, offers breakfast all day, making it a favourite for early risers and late sleepers alike. Guests often queue for a spot at the counter, as reservations aren’t accepted here.
  • Bar 1912, named after the hotel’s opening year, provides a sophisticated space for evening cocktails, with an ambiance that effortlessly blends classic and contemporary.
  • The Polo Lounge, which offers an intimate and vibrant atmosphere, was once considered 'Hollywood's commisary". From breakfast to dinner to brunch, the Polo Lounge's offerings are endless.

Relaxation and recreation

The Beverly Hills Hotel is not just about luxury—it’s also a haven for relaxation and recreation. The Valmont Spa offers a range of indulgent treatments, while the hotel’s 11 poolside cabanas provide the perfect setting for soaking up the California sunshine. The pool, which used to be surrounded by sand in the 1940s, has been home to a Dior collaboration for the past two summers, during which the pool was rebranded in the hotel’s iconic pink and the Dior logo and a pop-up shop stood on the upper terrace. Guests can enjoy drinks and meals poolside, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor experience.

The property also features the Citrus Garden, a tranquil space where guests can unwind amid fragrant orange and lemon trees. These quiet corners of the hotel are a rare luxury in the heart of Beverly Hills, offering guests the chance to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.

Exploring Beverly Hills

For those venturing beyond the hotel, The Beverly Hills Hotel serves as an ideal gateway to the best of Los Angeles. Guests often embark on quintessential Hollywood experiences, such as touring the Academy Museum, exploring the Warner Bros. backlot, or shopping on the world-famous Rodeo Drive.

Dining in Beverly Hills is an adventure in itself. Many guests rave about local hotspots like Funky, a trendy new restaurant, or classics such as Nobu and John & Vinny’s, known for their vibrant atmosphere and exceptional cuisine.

The Pink Palace Legacy

As it celebrates over a century of hospitality, The Beverly Hills Hotel remains a symbol of timeless elegance and Hollywood allure. From its rich history and luxurious accommodations to its iconic design and unparalleled service, every element of the hotel exudes sophistication.

Whether you’re staying in a legendary bungalow, dining poolside, or simply wandering through its storied halls, The Beverly Hills Hotel offers an experience unlike any other. It’s not just a place to stay—it’s a journey into the heart of Los Angeles and a step into cinematic history.

For travellers seeking the ultimate combination of luxury, history, and Hollywood magic, The Beverly Hills Hotel continues to shine as a beacon of glamour and a must-visit destination in Southern California.

We were present at the hotels in our Los Angeles series in October 2024 and delayed the publications to Spring due to the fires, we hope none of the team members were severely impacted by them.
