Commenting on the event, Hollywood celebrity Catherine Zeta Jones remarked: “I’ve never been to Hainan but I’ve heard wonderful things about Mission Hills•Haikou. I've read some articles about the tournament course, Blackstone, and am very curious about it, so I come to experience it for myself’.
American Swimming legend Michael Phelps pointed out: “I love being on the golf course, which is certainly different than being in the pool, but I’m still a competitor and am looking forward to the competition. I’ve also never been to Hainan and I always enjoy going somewhere new and different.”
Hong Kong based celebrity Aaron Kwok added: “This is my first trip to Mission Hills•Haikou and I’ve been blown away by the natural beauty, the standard of the golf courses and the facilities on offer at Mission Hills•Haikou.”
Dr. Ken Chu, Vice Chairman of Mission Hills Group, commented: “The Mission Hills name is already renowned worldwide with golf enthusiasts but Mission Hills•Haikou is not just for golfers – it’s a fully integrated family-friendly resort that’s designed to appeal to a much wider target market. The Mission Hills Star Trophy provides a platform for us to tell the world about Mission Hills•Haikou.”
The resort which is located 15 minutes from the Haikou Meilan International Airport features 518 luxuriously appointed guest rooms and suites, all with panoramic views of the resort’s dramatic Blackstone tournament golf course.
The volcanic origins of the site are recalled in many decorative touches within the hotel and clubhouse, ranging from vases to soap dispensers to whole walls made from local lava rocks.
The resort boasts 12 world-class restaurants, offering a variety of local and International cuisines from around the globe.
A fully equipped Recreation Center offers fun activities for adults and children, an indoor swimming pool, a fitness center, a foot reflexology center, games rooms and a Kids’ Club. The “Lava Lagoon”, Hainan’s only aquatic theme park, has a huge outdoor swimming pool, a beach and two man-made volcanoes. Next to it is the “Lazy River”, a winding stream with its own gently flowing in-built current.
The luxurious Mission Hills Spa, currently under construction, is due for completion in early 2011. It will feature a spa café, a hair & nail spa, a library, a retail boutique, a hydrotherapy zone, a spa ritual garden and elegant spa treatment villas, offering the ultimate in pampering and tranquility. A natural wonder and a source of healing and rejuvenation, Hainan’s largest natural volcanic mineral springs reserve, located on the grounds of Mission Hills•Haikou offers over 220 hot and cold therapeutic natural mineral spring pools.
For guests who enjoy a little retail therapy, there’s a shopping arcade with outlets from major international brands. And younger guests are not forgotten – the “Aloha Discovery” is a kids’ toyshop with an indoor playground.
As expected of a 5-star resort, state-of-the-art meeting facilities are available for conferences, corporate training events, weddings, parties and any kind of celebration with seating available for up to 1,600 people.
The resort currently has six golf courses, with four more still to come, all designed by the best in the business, plus the Hank Haney Golf Academy and an outdoor driving range – all open to the public.
Dr Chu further added: “Our decision to expand our brand to Hainan Island was driven by the strong support and encouragement from the Hainan government, thus making Hainan Island the world’s next must-visit holiday destination by 2020.”
