Boutique brand delivers refreshingly local hotel experience for both owners and guests

Hotel Indigo opened 13 hotels and signed 14 deals globally in the first nine months of 2009, as reported in IHG’s 3rd quarter earnings, demonstrating its success with both developers and consumers in spite of the economic downturn. There are currently 34 Hotel Indigo properties open worldwide and more than 60 hotels under development, either in the pipeline or in final negotiation.

The recent opening of Hotel Indigo New York City Chelsea converged with the brand’s announcement of three new Hotel Indigo signings for properties in Hong Kong, Liverpool, England, and Glasgow, Scotland. The brand began its global roll out with the opening of Hotel Indigo London Paddington in December 2008 and will open its first hotel in Asia Pacific in Shanghai, China in May 2010.

“As the unit growth vehicle for IHG, Hotel Indigo is delivering solid development opportunities across the globe in all three regions,” said Janis Cannon, vice president, Global Brand Management, Hotel Indigo. “We’re seeing that there’s a strong appetite for the brand with both developers and consumers and feel confident that our goal to have 250 properties worldwide by 2020 is achievable.”

“This year alone we’ve almost doubled our portfolio in the Americas with properties opening in key markets, including San Diego, New York City, Toronto and San Jose, Costa Rica – our first Hotel Indigo in Latin America,” said Gina LaBarre, vice president of Brand Delivery, the Americas, IHG. “Moving into 2010, our growth strategy is even more focused on growing in top-tier priority markets and gateway cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and New York City.”

Leveraging its proven track record and balanced business model, Hotel Indigo continues building momentum with more than 60 properties under development, either in the pipeline or in final negotiation. This year through Sept. 30 alone, the brand signed eight deals in the Americas for properties in Vancouver, British Columbia, Long Beach, Calif., and Pittsburgh and is expected to open up to 15 hotels in 2010.

Meeting the desires of today’s business and leisure traveler, Hotel Indigo is an upscale boutique brand that delivers a refreshing and inviting guest experience that is truly reflective of the local community.
