San Jose, California, recently ranked amongst the top 12 “greenest” cities in the US by Genentech Media, is home to the iconic Fairmont San Jose. Considered the capital of Silicon Valley, San Jose wants to be the global center of greentech innovation. Mayor Chuck Reed has initiated one of the nation's most aggressive green initiatives – the Green Vision program with a 15-year goal that includes:
· Creating 25,000 cleantech jobs
· Reducing per capita energy use by 50 percent
· Receiving 100 percent of its electrical power from clean renewable sources
· Building or retrofitting 50 million square feet of green buildings
· Diverting 100 percent of waste from landfills
· Recycling or reusing 100 percent of its wastewater (100 million gallons per day)
· Ensuring that 100 percent of its public fleet vehicles run on alternative fuels
· Planting 100,000 new trees
· Replacing 100 percent of its streetlights with smart, zero emission lighting
A proud San Jose community member, Cyril Isnard, General Manager of the Fairmont San Jose shares, “Our commitment to the environment and San Jose’s greentech innovation is paramount. The Fairmont San Jose has made environmental stewardship part of the corporate culture.” We are proud to work alongside Mayor Reed and the city of San Jose in actualizing the Green Vision Program.”
The Fairmont San Jose has incorporated a number of earth-friendly practices including: Opt-in linen exchange programs (for guests staying multiple nights, housekeeping will change the linen every second day, towels that are left hanging will not be removed and towels placed on the floor will be replaced). The hotel also uses eco-conscious hotel cleaning products. Partially used amenities and household goods are distributed to local shelters and charities. Paperless check in/check out and a dedicated informational TV channel also minimize paper usage. The Hotel has also recently successfully implemented an ozone laundry support system. (OLSS). This non-invasive patented passive injection technology has dramatically reduced water, sewer, gas and electric usage.
