As part of the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa’s ongoing committed environmental efforts, the resort has successfully implemented an ozone laundry support system. (OLSS). This non-invasive patented passive injection technology has dramatically reduced water, sewer, gas and electric usage at the resort. Monthly energy savings for the month of February were in excess of 20%, which further garnered a Winter Gas Savings Program credit of $2800.00 from Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG& E). Working with utility partners including PG&E and the Sonoma Valley Sanitation District, the resort is slated to save over 1.5 million gallons of water per year and over 12,000 therms annually. The resort worked closely with these utility partners in order to leverage rebates and incentives. Capital costs have been recovered via rebates and incentives coupled with realized resort energy savings.

The use of ozone technology in the laundry operation has become one of the fastest growing practices in the hotel and healthcare industries. In addition to the tremendous utility savings and results, ozone is considered to be the most effective method of disinfection - (3,000 times faster than chlorine).

Jeff Muscat, Director of Engineering at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa states, “We recognize that many corporations, including Fairmont Hotels & Resorts have adopted a mandate of environmental responsibility.” He continues, “We are proud to continually integrate state of the art technology into our operations, programs and policies. This system has improved the bottom line and the environment at the same time.”

With over 56 distinctive hotels, Fairmont continues to lead by example with innovative programs and an unwavering commitment to expanding its Green Partnership. The Green Partnership program focuses on improvements in the areas of waste management, energy and water conservation, as well as a strong element of community outreach through local groups and partnerships.
