Omni Hotels announced that the brand was officially selected by Dallas City Council to be the operator for the Dallas Convention Center Hotel. The hotel brand will operate the 1,000-room hotel, scheduled to open in 2011.

"Clearly with a project so important to our city, selecting the right hotel partner for our city is paramount," said Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert. "We are pleased to have picked Omni Hotels as our partner. Omni is high-caliber, is locally based, and together we will work with a variety of diverse groups to help create an authentic Dallas experience in the heart of our city."

The planned hotel will serve to work in concert with the Convention Center, one of the largest in the US with over one million square feet of exhibit space, to attract more meetings and convention business to Dallas. The current design includes over 80,000 square feet of meeting space, several restaurants, lounges and a signature spa. The project will also be the springboard for additional development to add more lifestyle and entertainment venues in the area to engage guests and locals.

"We are thrilled with this decision and look forward to working together with the entire community to continue to propel Dallas to the national stage," said Mike Deitemeyer, president of Omni Hotels. "We again thank city staff, Mayor Leppert, the City of Dallas, the Dallas City Council and members of our local community for their countless hours, patience and dedication toward making this come to fruition."

Many groups and organizations across Dallas have joined together in support of the building of the hotel, which will aid in attracting top-tier conventions and meetings and bolster the local economy. According to the Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau, a convention center hotel could bring approximately $800 million in direct spending and $2.6 billion in annual economic impact as well as become a destination that helps revitalize downtown Dallas.

The luxury hotel brand is headquartered in Las Colinas and currently has three hotels located in the Dallas Fort Worth area.
