Master of Wine, Dr. Ron Georgiou MW has been appointed to preside over the Hilton Beijing Wangfujing’s world-class wine cellar, The Vintage Bank.

Dr. Ron Georgiou MW has identified wines from around the world, not only focusing on “blue chip” premium Chateaux, but also on boutique producers which represent great quality and value for money. This has culminated in creating a 10,000 bottle cellar with more than 500 different labels for the city of Beijing. The wines have been selected to compliment the menus at the hotel’s unique dining experiences including Chynna, Vasco’s, Flames and The Library.

Dr Georgiou MW was thrilled to be working on the Hilton Beijing Wangfujing’s extensive wine list and commented, “At The Vintage Bank guests can discover new treasures from Toro in Spain or delight in wonderful organic wines from Argentina and Chile. If it is a special celebration, then start with a glass of Louis Roederer Cristal and then be spoilt by our vast selection of Bordeaux, such as 1990 Chateau Lafite, 1996 Mouton Rothschild or 1986 Haut Brion.”

Dr Georgiou MW was born in the fine claret year of 1961; he graduated in 1985 with an Honours degree in Dentistry from Sydney University and passed the Master of Wine exams in 2000. He also holds an MW from the Institute of Masters of Wine in London, the most prestigious and demanding qualification in the world of wine. This unique qualification gives him a broad expertise in global wine, from viticulture to winemaking, and from the history of wine to marketing. He tastes over 300 wines from around the world each month to maintain his expertise and to sharpen his palate.

As one of only 262 Masters of Wine in the world and only 16 Australian Masters of Wine, Dr Georgiou’s expertise encompasses wine education, wine journalism, cellar management and valuation. He is a flamboyant corporate event presenter and creates unique wine programs around the globe. To date he has created award-winning concepts for Hilton Hotels and Conrad Hotels & Resorts in the Maldives, Moscow, Beijing, Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo and Sydney.

“My guiding vision is to make wine a multi-sensory experience that moves us beyond taste and smell to one’s heart, spirit and mind”, he says. So far that has involved creating the world’s first underwater wine cellar and wine bar at the Conrad Maldives, exquisitely matching food and wine with famous Michelin Star chefs and as the founder of the 3D wine experience, creating unique wine events that teach guests about wine through music, art, history and food.
