The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management, part of Dubai-based luxury hospitality group Jumeirah, will host the 26th Annual EuroCHRIE conference, the largest gathering of academics in the region, from 11 - 14th October 2008.
This conference will be opened by HE Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Education. This will be the first conference outside of Europe since EuroCHRIE was established and is themed 'Building a Legacy, Living the Dream: 2020 Vision for Hospitality and Tourism'.
Keynote speakers include Gerald Lawless, Executive Chairman, Jumeirah Group, discussing Hospitality 2020: Future Directions; Gary Sain, President and CEO, Orlando, Orange County Convention and Visitors Bureau, discussing Destination Branding; and Sean Worker, Managing Director and Senior Vice President, International Operations, Wyndham Hotel Group, discussing Talent Management 2020: Issues and Solutions.
The conference will also include panel speakers, refereed academic paper presentations in English and Arabic, graduate events and roundtable discussions around the themes of Human Resource challenges, Alumni experiences and sustainable tourism, with delegates also having the opportunity to take part in workshops and special-interest group sessions. Extensive social networking opportunities will also be available, including a traditional dinner in the desert at Jumeirah Bab Al Shams and a gala awards dinner at Mina A' Salam.
This is the first year that delegates can submit and present their papers in Arabic as well as English. The Academy has received a total of 180 academic papers for presentation, including over 20 from the Middle East.
Ron Hilvert, Managing Director of The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management, commented:
'We are very much looking forward to welcoming EuroCHRIE delegates to The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management, we received great feedback from board members during their visit last year and we are confident that the conference will be a huge success.'
'The decision to host this year's conference in Dubai clearly demonstrates that the Emirate is a truly international tourism and hospitality destination and hub for the region, which complements our own efforts at the Academy and within the wider Jumeirah Group to put Dubai on the world map,' he added.
EuroCHRIE is the leading international organization supporting education & training for the hospitality industry and the annual conference provides the ideal platform for members to share research, best practices and ideas, and network at the same time. The 2008 conference has attracted around 250 delegates from around the world, including academics, educators, researchers, graduates, government and industry practitioners and leaders in tourism, hospitality and events.
Eleanor Vial, President of EuroCHRIE, added:
'Amazing. Exciting. Unique… This is Dubai, the world's fastest growing city to which we always refer when talking about hospitality. 'Building a Legacy: Living a dream' is thus, a most appropriate theme for the 2008 conference run with such enthusiasm and energy by the Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management. Dubai is definitively the place to be in October to share a profitable and enjoyable experience and… to live the dream together!'
