Each year the discriminating travelers and readers of Travel + Leisure Magazine select the very best in travel. The World’s Best Service Awards include those hotels and resort properties that consistently provide superior personalized service to their guests. Today Woodlands Resort & Inn is pleased to announce they have been ranked #1 in the Continental U.S. and Canada, and #3 worldwide in the 2008 World’s Best Service Awards by the readers of Travel + Leisure Magazine. Equally impressive, Woodlands is the only U.S. property to make the Worldwide Top 10 list. The results of this survey are based on the reader evaluation published in the June, 2008 issue.

Sheila Johnson, owner of Woodlands and Founder of its parent company, Salamander Hospitality, expressed her deep appreciation of Travel + Leisure’s recognition and stated, “I could not be more proud of Woodlands extraordinary staff led by Marty Wall, our General Manager. Each day they embody the commitment to excellence which our Salamander brand stands for.”

“A truly dedicated staff is really the heart of every great hotel,” added Marty Wall, General Manager of the Woodlands Resort & Inn. “We are grateful to our many wonderful guests who we take pride in serving each day. This is a special tribute to an intuitive staff that always believes they can make a difference.”

The Travel + Leisure awards will be kept in good company with an impressive list of high profile accolades that are well deserved by the Woodlands Resort & Inn. This esteemed list includes the 2008 Mobil Five-Star Award for both dining and lodging (one of only three hotels in the U.S. to earn both distinctions), The AAA Five-Diamond Award for lodging and dining excellence (for 12 consecutive years), and the 2007 Gold List achievement from Conde? Nast Traveler. Woodlands has also been a Relais & Chateaux member since 1996 and has received their highest culinary designation – Relais Gourmand.

The Dining Room at Woodlands is widely known for its innovative and sophisticated version of new American cuisine. Under the direction of Executive Chef Tarver King, the world-renowned culinary team uses a wonderful variety of fresh ingredients to create unique lunch and dinner menus. Equally unique is Woodlands brand of service characterized by its genuinely warm, gracious southern hospitality.

Helen Hill, Executive Director of the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau also commented, "This prestigious designation is a testament to the dedication of the staff at Woodlands Resort & Inn to offer nothing less than the most attentive and gracious service. It is fitting that the property offering the highest caliber of service would be in the destination that has been repeatedly recognized as the nation's most mannerly."
