An enthusiastic MotorCity Casino Hotel staff welcomed their first hotel guests today as the only locally owned and operated Detroit casino-hotel opened its doors for business. The 17 story hotel and casino will provide luxury accommodations, unparalleled guest service, premium amenities and spectacular entertainment in a setting that is infused with the best that Detroit has to offer.
"I am incredibly proud," said owner Marian Ilitch. "We are excited to open the property and treat our guests to a level of hospitality they deserve in Detroit." Mrs. Ilitch, who has been intimately involved in the hotel plans, room decor and selection of guest amenities, said she is looking forward to providing a truly unique guest experience with an uncompromised level of guest service at the new hotel.
MotorCity Casino Management Committee member Christopher Ilitch, representing Mrs. Ilitch, welcomed Detroit into their new "home" during an opening ceremony today and reiterated her passion for continued development and reinvestment in her birthplace. He was joined by Detroit Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick, Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Michael O'Callaghan, Travel Michigan Vice President George Zimmerman, and casino-hotel leadership.
The dignitaries then welcomed the hotel's first guests, Metro Detroiter Edwin Davis and his Norwegian fiancee, Annette Kjelstad, who will also be the first couple to be married at the hotel on Saturday. The couple's family and friends from Norway, South Africa, California, Ohio and South Carolina are traveling to Detroit to attend the wedding and will stay at MotorCity Casino Hotel this weekend.
Comfort is King
The new hotel features 400 superior quality guestrooms, including 41 suites, and some of the finest high-tech amenities offered in the region. The hotel interior decor compliments the Post World War II "Future Retro" design theme of MotorCity's new casino space, paying tribute to Detroit and America's love affair with the automobile.
A peaceful and relaxing stay is assured with plush pillowtop mattresses, 300 thread count imported bed linens, marble bathrooms with a separate water closet, soaking tub and shower, and sumptuous towels and bathrobes. MotorCity Casino Hotel's pillow library allows guests to choose from more than 15 pillows of varying size, firmness and fill.
Premium Guest Service
MotorCity Casino Hotel is dedicated to exceeding the expectations of both business and leisure guests, and proudly offers 24 hour in-room dining, concierge service, complimentary Internet access in every room, nightly turn down service, and a state-of-the art business center.
Sweet Suites
MotorCity Casino Hotel's Premier Suites, located on the 15th floor of the hotel tower, offer 1,450 -- 2,500 sq. ft. of living space with panoramic views. Junior suites are located at the corners of each floor and comprise 950 sq. ft. with accessibility to a second bedroom that brings square footage to over 1,400.
More Excitement is in the Cards
In addition to the hotel, MotorCity recently expanded its gaming space and will add a premium spa, conference and banquet space, a 1,200 seat theater, new retail and dining options and additional parking in early 2008.
Iridescence, Detroit's only AAA Four Diamond restaurant, will relocate to the hotel's top floor adjacent to a new ultra-lounge, Amnesia. The dramatic space with 40-foot glass walls will offer breathtaking views of the Detroit riverfront and skyline coupled with exquisite dining and unique entertainment experiences.
