During the ILTM 22nd edition in Cannes, André Philippe Gerondeau, Chief Operating Officer for Melià Hotels International took the stage for the “only Spanish luxury brand to bring the Spanish Warm and Welcoming Service, Gastronomy, Art and Culture to the world”. It was the opportunity to share openings to come for the group's four most prestigious brands: Gran Melià, The Melià Collection, Me by Melià, Paradisus.
The luxury brands, totalling 59 properties and counting, are spanning across Central and South America, Europe, Asia and Africa.
Gran Melià, the most distinguished brand for the group, is leading the expansion with two openings. On the 6th of December, Palazzo Cordusio marked a milestone as the first Gran Melià property in Milan. The property is located in the Palazzo delle Assicurazioni Generali (aka Palazzo Venezia) after a major restoration of the 19th century historic building. Offering 84 rooms and suites, a rooftop bar, a gastronomic restaurant and a wellness centre at the heart of Milan, the property is set to play a unique role in the group’s Italian footprint. In 2024, Gran Melià Nha Trang, in the heart of Vietnam, will blend a Mediterranean lifestyle with the South Asian hospitality culture. The location of the property would make it a perfect getaway between Ho chi minh and Hanoi with 99 exclusive beach front villas, privacy for groups and families and a culinary experience and welcoming to adults and families.
The Melià Collection, which curates independent hotels, will see the creation of an exclusive 4-stops journey through Tanzania, an offer exclusive to Melià. It starts on the beaches of Gran Melià Arusha, then takes guests to the recently opened Ngorongoro Lodge nestled on a UNESCO World Heritage site of the same name. Ngorongoro is one of the most biodiverse places in the world, and home to semi-nomadic Maasai, which some are also employed at the lodge. The journey continues at Serengeti Lodge, to end at the Melià Zanzibar and its beaches. This experience is part of the commitment of the group to respect and support local cultures, communities and conservation programmes, with 95% of the products being acquired in neighbouring villages.
Me by Melia, the lifestyle luxury brand, will open the first skyscraper in St Julians, in Malta in the first half of 2024. Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, the property will be the only luxury lifestyle hotel on the island. Me Lisbon, the second new property for the brand, will open in the second half of 2024. Located in Marquese Bombal, it will feature brand signature avant-garde design, innovative gastronomy and a rooftop restaurant offering views on the city.
Melià is also embracing nature with a new Paradisus resort in Lanzarote which is the first property for the brand in Europe, after only operating in the Caribbean. With the Paradisus Salinas designed by Fernando Higueras and César Manrique, the group expects to offer an experience closer to a museum. The 11 rooms property will give access to the unspoilt beaches of Costa Teguise, the Corona volcano, and provide a “Destination inclusive” experience, bringing the destination to the guests and into the property through 3 or 4 different activities or cultural visits.
