Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group today announced that it will manage a new luxurious 125-room resort with 20 Residences at Mandarin Oriental on the island of St. Kitts in the British West Indies, which will open in 2010. The Group now has a portfolio of five resorts open or under development in the Caribbean region.
Mandarin Oriental, St. Kitts will be an extraordinary resort ideally situated on a pristine 50-acre site at Majors Bay, a private cove on the island's secluded southeast peninsula. The resort will appeal to sophisticated leisure travelers and naturalists alike with a wide range of unspoiled ecosystems, from coral reefs to salt ponds and lush vegetation in the surrounding verdant hillsides. The champagne-colored beach, with its powder-fine sand, will provide an ideal setting for active recreation or complete relaxation.
The resort will be an integral part of Christophe Harbour, a 2,400 acre project being developed along the coastline of both the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. The overall development will offer an array of leisure activities, including a Marina village offering docking spaces for private yachts, an eclectic choice of restaurants and boutiques, as well as an 18-hole Tom Fazio Championship golf course.
The guestrooms and suites at Mandarin Oriental, St. Kitts will captivate guests with a graceful style reflective of the Caribbean. The accommodation will be amongst the largest in the region, each incorporating superior technology and entertainment systems. Among the hotel's specialty accommodations are "Lagoon Suites," designed as luxurious over-water bungalows, set above the property's tranquil, pristine lagoon. The resort's 4,800-square-foot beachfront Presidential Suite will offer among the finest interiors to be found on the island.
Included in the development will be 20 private Residences at Mandarin Oriental, each approximately 3,000 square feet, providing an opportunity for ownership in this incomparable island retreat. As with all Residences at Mandarin Oriental, owners will be treated as permanent guests of the hotel and will enjoy privileged access to the services and amenities provided on property.
A wide range of contemporary cuisine and alfresco dining will be featured in five restaurants and bars, all with spectacular views over the azure waters of the Caribbean Sea. A 225-seat ballroom and three additional meeting rooms will also be incorporated into the hotel design.
The comprehensive 15,000-square-foot spa will feature 11 state-of-the-art treatment rooms offering holistic rejuvenation and relaxation in a tranquil, meditative setting. Incorporating the most extensive range of wellness treatments in St. Kitts, The Spa at Mandarin Oriental will feature signature programs that are exclusive to the Group and rooted in oriental philosophy and practice. A sophisticated fitness centre, as well as outdoor swimming pools will also be available.
Guests at the resort will enjoy a wide selection of recreational water sports activities including world-class snorkeling and sailing. Guided hiking tours through the island's rainforests up to Mount Liamuiga and the mile-wide crater rim of this dormant volcano will also be a prominent attraction. The island is abundantly populated by tropical birds, white-tailed deer and green Vervet monkeys, affording exceptional opportunities for wildlife viewing.
Edouard Ettedgui, Group Chief Executive of Mandarin Oriental said, "We look forward to bringing Mandarin Oriental's renowned levels of luxury hospitality to this beautiful Caribbean destination. Mandarin Oriental, St. Kitts, along with the extensive facilities of the overall peninsula development, will further enhance the appeal of St. Kitts as an international destination of choice for leisure travelers from around the world."
Mandarin Oriental, St. Kitts is a 20 minute drive from the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport, near Basseterre, the island nation's capital city. The airport receives flights from around the world, from key gateway cities including Charlotte, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, San Juan and London. The property is also accessible by yacht.
The hotel is owned by Majors Bay Group Limited, a private investment company based in St. Kitts.
