New senior vice president and general manager named at MGM Grand at Foxwoods.
John O'Brien, president of MGM Grand at Foxwoods, announced today that Gillian Murphy has been appointed to the position of senior vice president and general manager of the highly anticipated casino resort slated to open in May 2008. In this role, Murphy will work closely with the property's executive team to organize resources to serve customers and ensure excellence in execution by working with the most talented employees of the new MGM Grand at Foxwoods.

"Gillian's knowledge of the industry, coupled with her enthusiasm and energy is a winning combination for us and we're thrilled to have her as part of the team."
With more than 20 years of experience in the hotel and gaming industries, Murphy brings a successful track record of operational strength and leadership. Most recently, she held the position of vice president and assistant general manager of the Ameristar property Black Hawk, Colorado which is in the throes of a 536-room hotel development project.
Prior to that, Murphy was vice president, corporate hotel operations for Harrah's Entertainment Inc., Las Vegas for three years where she developed Hotel Brand service and product standards, directed the opening of three properties and maximized lodging revenue on a consistent basis. Between 1998 and 2004, she held the position of vice president of hotel operations for Harrah's and Harvey's Casino Hotels in Lake Tahoe, Nevada.
Murphy has also played major roles at several other flagship properties, including general manager of the Mobil Five-Star-rated Williamsburg Inn in Virginia, director of hotel operations at Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, New York and director of property services at the Annapolis Hotel in Maryland.
Murphy holds a bachelor's degree in Education from Bristol University in the United Kingdom and is involved in a variety of industry organizations. She is chairman of the Nevada Hotel and Lodging Association, acting chairman of the Las Vegas Hotel Show and a member of the Epicurean Fundraising Board. In 2006, Murphy was also named Nevada's "Executive of the Year" by the Nevada Tourism Alliance.
